    • Sometimes I get the feeling that most baseball coaches expect other levels of baseball to teach these kids how to play defense. It's such a game about pitching and hitting. I feel like defense doesn't get the practice time, and innovation, it deserves.
    • Keep in mind that the International League uses robo-umps.   Major league umps call 12% of true balls as strikes, but only 3% of true strikes as balls (per Ump Scorecard).   So, IL pitchers are probably getting a much stingier strike zone than they see anywhere else.

    • I’ve seen him thrown out before.  I don’t keep count but this isn the first time.  He does manufacture runs although that’s going to decrease as he moves up.  I’d say he’s scored multiple runs like last night where he steals 3B and the catcher makes a bad throw and he continues home.  Last night the throw got about 10-15 feet between the 3B and SS and he got up and scored easily.  My impression is that when running the bases he needs to learn his limits.
    • The point is about the long term strategy earlier in 2022.    Elias could have throttled Grayson and Gunnar less in 2022 (Grayson 2021 as well), and then for August and September 2022 the Club would have had whatever Mancini and Lopez could have contributed. The Rays beat them by 3 games for the final berth in 2022.    Grayson Rodriguez was greener than he had to be in Game 2 of the 2023 ALWC series.    He was one of the Club's best pitchers available until the lat strain occurred 6.1.2022, and was back by September. Mike Elias has done an excellent job, but some of it has involved embracing tradeoffs that championship caliber players probably found unpleasant.    None of them have signed on with him to date.
