Colton Cowser 2024

Recommended Posts

He just made his first start of the season. He looked good in LF. He went 2-3 with a 2B and RBI. Had two oppo hits.

O’Hearn struggled in RF. Cowser to essentially be in a 4 OF rotation similar to how Westburg got ABs in the 4 IF rotation in the 2nd half of 2023.

The young guys will be better than about 5-6 hitters on this team. The slow play of all of this is frustrating. I just hope they figure out how to incorporate all of these guys so they are ready to play most days by September.

We shouldn’t be taking the playoffs for granted.

Thus far, it doesn't appear that Westburg is part of a 4 IF rotation. He has started all 5 games - Urias (3), Mateo (2), Kemp (1)

Hoping the baseball gods gave a "tax bill paid" grace with that dribbler that crawled up the line.

The LF/RF contrast last night was noticeable.   Small sample theater he has the high OPS+ on the roster this morning.

For him and O'Hearn both, it is a lot of coming off the bench until Fenway with LHP scheduled in 3 out of 4 the rest of this week.

Mountcastle's always had some separation on O'Hearn even though it is convenient to talk about "the Ryans" blocking Cowser, Kjerstad and Mayo.    Short term for the lineup builder, Cowser or O'Hearn is what it will boil down to many days.

Thoughts on Cowser's first start:

1) He looked much better in the field than he did at any point last season.  He made two nice running catches in the 4th inning I believe.  Neither was amazing but both were solid plays and showed his athleticism.

2) His first double will go down in the books as an RBI double, but it was an absolutely atrocious piece of hitting.  Man on 2nd, nobody out, 3-0 score.  He gets ahead in the count 1-0, and Palmer says, "He must get the runner over to third or drive him in, in this game situation," no sooner does he finish speaking than Cowser hits a weak ground ball to the left side of the infield.  Now, lucky for him it rolled down the third base line and into the outfield for an RBI double, but it was the exact opposite of what he should have been doing.

This was a solid start for him.  And hopefully a spring board to more playing time.

You seem to be really into the fickleness of the OH.   LOL

Hard to ignore it when it's so obvious in situations like this.  Cowser was like the A1 trade candidate that everyone wanted to send to CWS this offseason for Cease and any other proposed trade that would have brought us back something significant.  Kjerstad was looked at as the one to keep.

And so because he's on the ML team, and there's a thread about him, what exactly?

And just like that, Kjerstad is an afterthought.

Adley, McCann, Mayo, Holliday, Henderson, Westburg, Norby, Mounty or Santander, Mullins, Kjerstad, Cowser, Mullins and Stowers.

Can we speak this into existence?

By some yes. I think everyone still wants all of those guys up here.
