AM not looking for Yankees Big 3 in Tejada Trade

Farnsworth's been mediocre to bad in 3 of the past 4 years, and we want to make him our closer? If you think that Melky's not good enough to be a central part of a deal, then why this guy? I'd rather get Edwar Ramirez from them; he's got phenomenal stuff judging by his k rates, and he's a lot younger.

Farnsworth is hardly the centerpiece of the deal.

Tabata and Jackson are clearly the centerpieces of the deal, Farnsworth is more of a throw-in.

Tabata, Jackson, Horne and Farnsworth for Miggy and Millar.

Would the Yankees want Millar? If so, that sounds good. It's especially possible since the front office seems to like A.J. Burnett and that is who Horne is compared to.

Who would have more trade value if they both perform well by mid-2008: Edwar Ramirez or Farnsworth?

Well, Ramirez isn't someone you would look to trade if you got him...Its not an apple to apples comparison.

I could see the Yanks wanting Millar for first and some DH.

Tejada/Millar for Tabata/Jackson/Horne/Farnsworth:

If Tejada is worth Tabata, Jackson, & Horne, then would we in effect be offering some salary relief by taking on Farsworth for Millar?

Millar is due $2.75M in 2008. Farnsworth is worth $5.5M. The difference is 2.75M. So the Yankees end up getting Tejada for 2/$23.25M, or around 11.6M per year. Sounds good for them.

And we get an assorted mix bag of prospects and Farnsworth who we could turn into even more with any luck. Am I wrong to think about it like this?

I watched many Yankees games and I know pretty much about Melky. He is a very streaky hitter but most of the time he is an automatic out. He has a pretty good eye and a fantastic arm but really he doesnt have that much upside than what we have already seen.

I believe most of his numbers even went down this past year. Do we really need a .275 hitter than hits about 10 HR's? I dont think so

Don't get me wrong ... I'm not advocating Cabrera as a centerpiece to a Tejada deal ... but don't you think as someone who has just finished his 22 year old season in baseball that he will improve upon those numbers in future seasons?

I would think that Cabrera has a good chance to be a .300/.375/.400 type of player with 15 homers and 15 steals. That is the type of player that I would want, especially from a CF.

So you basically want an average or slightly above CF in return for Miggy?

I'll aim for something a bit higher.

Read the entire post, where I prefaced my point with I wouldn't want Melky as the centerpiece of the deal.

Now, I am not so sure that a .775 OPS is average for a CF, I will check on it and get back to you. A .775 OPS would have placed him 9th among CF qualifiers, so if he can improve to this level he is among the top 33% of CF.

Of course I am projecting, but he is just 23 years old with a 1000 ABs.

Checked it out ... Cabrera was average CF offensively as a 22 year old. He finished 16th among CF qualifiers in OPS. Now, again, I am figuring he will improve. Maybe I am wrong.

But thanks for taking my comments out of context.

Yes, this is the way I am looking at it.

The Yankees get a guy they want and give up nothing on their ML roster of consequence.

They keep their top young arms, which they want to do, and get rid of guys who are 1-3 years away from contributing for them.

Meanwhile, the Orioles get a guy who maybe can compete for a rotation job this year, their closer and 2 very good young OF prospects.

BTW, i could see the Yanks being interested in Bradford as well.

So maybe Bradford instead of Millar or maybe they thrown in another decent prospect.

Would we get an additional decent prospect if sent them Bradford instead of Millar?

Also, what if the Yankees want us to take Pavano instead of Farnsworth? Might they try to pull something like that? Maybe taking back Pavano would get us another prospect in exchange?

Tabata, Jackson, Horne and Farnsworth for Miggy and Millar.

I think you are being a bit fanciful if you believe the Yanks would give up that much. Jose Tabata is a top 20 prospect in all of baseball. Tejada's value is not in that range anymore. Jackson is an outstanding CF prospect who will be in AA this coming season as a 21 year old and will likely be a top 100 prospect.

I see Horne/Jackson/Farnsworth being realistic, but not Tabata as well. I think only Bedard gets you Tabata. Just the way I see it.

You may be right...I am not doubting this.

I think Tabata is a little overrated personally. If he weren't a Yankees prospect, I am not sure he is regarded as highly as he is.

That being said, I could still see the Yankees pulling the trigger on this deal.

Horne isn't anything special, so to make him the second player in a Miggy deal isn't enough for me.

    • For two years we talked about 7+ run leads possibly not being Baumann proof. I probably would have DFA'd Perez first, but I don't fault them here. They needed to get rid of someone and he was one of the two least reliable options out of the pen. I guess Perez got the LHP hard thrower advantage, even though he's not good.
    • Boras has never had a guy sign a long-term extension with 2 years of service time or less. I'm sure it's something they will look long and hard at after the season. I don't expect that to change in May of this year, but I do think that if they make an offer that he turns down, people won't think they lowballed him.
    • I'd have optioned Akin too...but I'd have DFA's Cionel Perez before Baumann
    • Not saying they are one jerk but there’s always likely something that is the straw that broke the camels back and that outing yesterday may have been it.
    • I know you can go to the MLB.com site and see a highlight with commentary and all that, but I had a hunch last night for this particular AB and got lucky.  Was enjoying myself too much live to capture either of the triples for timing purposes 😆  But it was fun hearing this huge crowd erupt as it was headed back to tie things up in the bottom of the first!
    • Agreed. My point was that the fans knew the Nats were trying.  The Orioles have not tried.  People can say that we don’t know but Gunnar was asked and said there were no talks that he had any knowledge of.  No player should be upset if the Orioles came out and said they wanted some extensions.  And the fans are going to be happy they are at least trying. Right now we have no evidence they have even tried.  This is why many, including some defending saying nothing, were upset with Angelos.
    • It's hard to hit your way out of a slump when you are on the bench. Mullins is going to get chances, I don't believe he's completely cooked.
