Yeah, 20 errors at third can't make you feel any better about him playing first. That dude can mash though and I think people obsessing over strikeouts these days is lame. Most outs are just outs, at least they are not double plays like Guerrero rolls into every 5th at bat or so it seems.

I think he is a legit bat, one of the few players capable of hitting 40+ every year. If we trade him then I would want something real good in return, but if we do trade him then Hardy, Guthrie, Uehara and friends need to follow. It would have to be a fire sale and that would mean no Fielder IMO.

I think you missed a team in contention that could really use him and has the flexibility to move him to first or keep him at third. The Pirates need power in the middle of their lineup, and have a lot of players to make moves.

Yep, but they seem smart enough not to make those kinds of deals. Their GM came out and said that Taillon, Sanchez, Allie and Cole weren't going anywhere. Another team that will be better than us in 2 years (Outside of records at the moment, lol)!

I'm not trading him if we get crap like the George sherril trade and miguel tejada part 2 trade. I want major league ready close to damn good players. If you are gonna trade for guys that do not have above average potential then there is no point. BTW when you trade the same player twice in the same rebuilding process you are doing something wrong.

We have Reynolds for 2 more years. What are the chances of contending in 2013? Unless we have a serious upgrade in SP none IMO. Where would that upgrade come from? Trades, it's not coming from within and FA SP is a bad investment. So trade Reynolds, Hardy, Jones, Guthrie, and Koji and get as much young SP as you can.

Eventually you have to establish a core at the ML level.

This team has put so much dependence on prospects the past decade. You can't keep depending on prospects to fill huge holes, as it takes time for them to develop. And that time it takes to develop keeps pushing that year for contention further and further back.

But a core by definition should be under your conrol for more than 2 years. You keep these guys only if you think you can contend while they are under your control. Hardy we can resign as a FA. We can't contend without a superior rotation. Right noe we have two SP who are under our control for more than 2 years and are pitching well. We need 3-4 more.

There are two groups of players the Orioles should look to trade. Guys who are on the wrong side of 30, and thus make it hard to get value for with an extension (Guthrie, Lee, Vlad, Scott). And relievers who bring a return back of an every day player or a long-term piece.

Hardy is a question mark because we don't know what his true intentions are. If we can't reach an extension trade him for a nice return, which most likely will be closer to the ML level then compensatory picks.

Trading guys like Jones, Markakis, and Reynolds would be counter-productive in most cases.

Jones is only here for two more years. If you trade him you can get a ML ready young SP and a good B level MiL prospect for him. Why keep him? Markakis can only be moved to a team with money, but the Sux and MFY's would love to have him at his salary, and have good prospects to trade. Guthrie should be moved and has a lot of value to contenders at the TD. We could get 3-4 good young ML ready or cloes to that SP for those guys plus a long term 1B. Again do you see this team getting to the playoffs in two years, if you keep them and sign some FA's? I don't.
