"You can call it what you want to, but he started antibiotics. Doing nothing but sleeping. We sent him home early yesterday. I was worried about bedsores. Make-up wise he's got what it takes to pitch up here. I am real proud of him."

Buck

That's awesome. The want to in Tillman is night and day from when he was last here. Keep grinding it out big cat.

Friday nights loss to the A's had such a stink surrounding it that it felt like it could cause a downward spiral. They won Sunday to avoid being swept and have now gone into the Bronx and played like they don't give a **** about the MFY. How long have we been waiting for that kind of attitude? As Orioles fans, we have watched enough O's/Yanks games over the years to feel doom after being down 5-0 after 1 inning but they didn't at all. What a comeback. All 7 runs came with 2 outs.

This year has been so crazy. Most of the time I don't know whether I want to hug or slap them. They have SO many flaws but they are so damn likeable. Go O's!!!!!!

Ive heard a lot about Buck meeting with Tillman in the dugout and looking very proud of his starter. Anyone know if theres video of this? I'd love to see it.

Incredible win. I watched a bit of the first inning before turning it off to get ready to go out to eat. I knew it was 5-0 early but I had a good feeling. Sure enough, kept getting the ESPN text alerts and the last one came as we pulled up to the restaurant. I asked my girlfriend (it was her birthday, she's a good sport) to read me the text. I shouted at her and told her to repeat herself when she said 7-5. Nearly **** myself. Awesome!:thumbsup1:

Yesterday, at 4, there was definitely a gasp of disappointment in O's nation.

Nothing to do now but tighten the ole chin-strap and dig deep to riot for our boys.

Who knows, maybe the threat of looming trades had this young team turned upside-down. Maybe a no trade was the vote of confidence they needed!!! (?)

Pretty funny typo there. At least, I assume it's a typo.

Great win for the Orioles. If this game was in Detroit, Toronto, Chicago or Texas it would have been a great win. Being in NY is huge and says a lot about team character.

Why a change in the offense? The addition of Quintanilla for 2B (called Q by Buck) and Markakis (called Nicky by Buck) coming back to hit leadoff has been huge. Quintanilla makes solid plays at 2B and is definitely better than RA and he hits the ball everywhere. He reminds me of a National League player which is really good for the team. He does a lot of small things that I think may be going unnoticed. He turned a DP late in the game last night when he bobbled the ball and quickly picked it up and threw to Hardy in time to still get the DP. Markakis is thriving at leadoff. LEAVE HIM THERE! Lew Ford playing in left solidifies our defense out there and he did get his first hit last night and ended up scoring after a wild pitch and sacrifice. He is also a veteran and can help this team in more ways than one. His story may also make the players appreciate their time in the major leagues. He also beat out a ground ball that could of been a DP last night because he hustled down the line. It wasn't a game changer but something the other players surely noticed. Every run last night was important and Fords run scored after his 2B padded the lead for us before Nick hit his 2 run HR to blow it open. Davis not moving all around in the OF has allowed him to focus on his hitting and I believe they said he is hitting well over .300 during the last 10 games.

Chris Tillman's effort while being sick was another statement for the team. I don't know if anyone's noticing but every time he pitches the players and Buck all have something good to say about him. I was at his first start as an Oriole at OP and remember how good he looked on the mound even though he gave up a lot of runs. It looked like his delivery was not consistent and his landing point needed some adjustment. It has taken several years for our Norfolk guys to appear to have corrected his delivery. His comments after the game were also right on the money. He credited wheaty, a name he calls Wieters, for telling him after the horrible 1st he needed to take it up another level or pick it up a little and helping him straighten out for several more innings that really helped the team. The players all seem to be calling him Tilly and complimenting him which tells you they like him. It looks like most of the players have nicknames which is really a good sign and shows they are playing like a team and pulling for each other. I said before that when all is said and done Tillman could be better than Arrieta or Matusz and possibly Britton. Britton is up and down and hard to predict. He is lefthanded and the Yankees seem to struggle against lefties. He got rocked in NY last year if my memory is correct. Can he forget about it and give the Orioles 5 or 6 good innings today? A win today would be really big for the team and hopefully our offense waking up will carry over through the weekend against Tampa.

    • Angelos did fight the relocation.  He voted against, lobbied against it, withheld permission to adjust TV territories, and threatened to sue if not fairly compensated.  As long as the team was compensated for the loss of broadcast exclusivity, I don’t think he had any other case. From all reports, he drove a hard bargain and it took like 9 months to negotiate a compensation and settlement agreement. There was a wide discrepancy among various parties about what constituted just compensation with Angelos taking more pessimistic views of the impact of the Nats franchise and less optimistic view on MASN. Also, MASN was in perpetuity not temporary.  In hindsight, MASN probably didn’t provide the revenue protection intended because of how the dispute played out and how the RSN market collapsed, but that’s in hindsight. Overall, Angelos “won” the MASN dispute (at least the RSDC process) more than he lost it - the Nationals advocated for rights fees intentionally designed to bankrupt MASN but the RSDC didn’t use their comps. Overall, I think it’s fair to say that relocating a team to DC has hurt the Baltimore club’s market size and ability to fund a top-10 payroll.   HOWEVER, had the Nats not come to DC, the specter of an Orioles relocation to DC would have been hanging over our heads especially as Peter’s health declined, the stadium aged, and the lease approached. Peter would never have moved, but are we sure JA would turn down a higher offer of say $2.3BN offer from Ted Leonsis or someone with the intent to move the club to DC? I think as an Orioles fan it’s probably best to have another team in DC than have to worry about the Orioles ever relocating there.
    • Everything revolves around the health of the player. I think Gunnar has more. I think the collision with Mateo set Gunnar back and affected him in ways we will never know. I'm no mind specialist but Gunnar is young plays all out, and that had to bother him. I've watched that collision a number of times. No fault - just two players going all out and one is finished for the year. It just so happened that Gunnar got the yips and his batting went south soon thereafter. Maybe a coincidence but I think we will see a rejuvenated Gunnar next year and all stops are off.
    • I’m not so sure the bolded part is true. I think a lot of that last bit can have to do with small skills: situational hitting/running, above average play in close games, generally things that can be boiled down to “luck.” I didn’t see this years team as having a major talent discrepancy from the 2023 version.
    • As great as Gunnar is can’t assume he matches last year. That said I like the odds of the team as a whole matching what we did.
    • The real improvement of this team will come from within.    The 3-5 players they bring in from outside the org will supplement the roster…maybe put it over the top but the real improvement will come from those already in the org.
    • Yeah. -Would love to keep Burnes but I seriously doubt it. -I have a lot of faith in Adley.  - Holliday has huge ceiling even if he isn’t ready to be elite.  - doesn’t always work this way but the better your closer is tends to help rest of pen
    • Nice OP. Thanks for the effort. Like the chart. Surprised it hasn't received much response. You sum up a lot of what I hope for as well. I'd add: I think a full - healty year of Westy will be even more valuable. I think Gunnar has even more in the tank. I want - hope that Holliday can develop into the lead off hitter and OBP table setter we need. And, I so want Cowser to cut down on strike outs and continue to develop as a professional hitter. I think he has the potential to cover for the loss of Santander while Big K develops on the right side. A lot to hope for but I believe these youngsters have a lot of potential yet to tap. And oh yes - I want Mayo to make Roy and all of us proud! Thanks again for the effort! I look at pitching as if we have a base. I agree with your points 1 and 2.
