You're serious? I didn't say that the PA has some procedure to prevent this from happening, although they do have the ability to prevent things like the "world series" clause. And yes multiple posters have said many times that he should retire and not take the O's money, free up a roster spot, etc.

There's no use discussing this anymore. It sounds like you have had very little experience with unions during periods of labor strife. If you believe that a player's negotiations regarding a contract is not influenced by the PA in any way, then so be it.

Retiring, with or without a buyout is not even close to the same thing as "returning earned money". "Returning earned money" would consist of Roberts walking into PA's with a checkbook and saying, "I only played 17 games this season and when I did play I was well below replacement level. I am therefor returning the 10 million I earned this season". No one is asking for that.
