Call me cynical, but maybe they don't want Martin. Maybe they have something else up their sleeve.

I agree with what they've done thus far, they do appear to be paring back payroll. I'll just wait until the offseason is over to fully believe it.

They are at $168 mill before they spend another $20 mill on arbitration eligible guys. I got $20 mill from MLB trade rumors. So, they have $20 mill to spend on a catcher, an outfielder and now a third baseman to keep their payroll in line with last year.

I do think they will blow right past the threshold for the 2015 season if they are not winning. It is going to be a one year arrangement to reset the tax.
