I would be ecstatic if Flaherty could develop into He Who Must Not Be Named... providing he stays with the organization. It wasn't until 29 that Ibanez really started going off and averaged 2.3 WAR from age 29-38 seasons.

He was very bad in 2012 and then got hot after a couple hundred at bats. Then in 2013 he started off as if the hot spell in 2012 never happened and it again took him a couple hundred at bats to "develop" and "adjust".

Sure you can. I just don't say it's a done deal at the first 200-250 ML AB's.

Whether you can or should give a player more or a sufficient number of AB's to properly evaluate him (i.e. 1200 or so) is dependent upon a lot of variables. In this case we should/could have given him additional AB's with pretty minimum downside risk imo.

Exactly, Flaherty's defense at second was fine this season and the offensive threshold for second is lower then left.

I think it's unlikely he hits enough to be a regular 2B even with plus defense there, so I think it's very unlikely he hits well enough to meet the more stringent offensive demands of LF.
