The problem is that our lead-off hitter became ICE COLD. Prior to this game, McLouth had a .125 OBP over the past 7 days, with just a double and 2 singles out of 24 plate appearances. That ranked 180th out of 186 qualifying batters for the period.

Including today, he added a walk and 4 more plate appearances, so that brings his OBP up to a sparkling .143 in 28 plate appearances. OPS of just .328.

There's where you've got yourself a big problem. You can't have that in the leadoff spot. He's got to heat up, like, now.

True, but we have still had tons of chances.

Markakis has probably been just as bad besides that Minnesota series, for a longer period of time.
