Orioles Trade Targets?

I have yet to hear/see/touch/smell/taste an actual scout or industry expert that has expressed concerns about Bundy's future. Just folks on this board.

Every profession seems thrilled that he was not one of the 8 percent that don't recovering from Tommy John.

They aren't getting that for two months. This isn't like the old days where you trade for a rental and get a pick when they leave after the season.

Why not? Wouldn't we be able to offer a qualifying offer when he leaves for FA?

Bingo... and the Red Sox want the same thing. They are trying to convince their fanbase that trading him now is a necessity but re-signing him this winter is a top priority. The Sox initially low-balled Lester hoping he'd take the same discount as Pedroia, but since the initial refusal they have continually upgraded their offer multiple times even surpassing what experts believe would be his market value. Lester appears simply vengeful about getting lowballed and isn't interested in any talks this year. The Red Sox best bet is to let him go and try to get him in the open market.

Where do you get this? I read the Boston papers daily and they don't present this slant.

I'm stunned that any serious baseball fan would willingly give up six years of a cost-controlled potential ace in order to bump the O's odds of winning the 2014 World Series from 6% to 8%.
The small jump in percent is because one player can only move the needle so much, no matter the player. As far as the original number being so small.... I don't know the exact numbers, but think like this. We have about a 60% chance to make the playoffs. Not even the division, that includes just a wildcard spot. In the playoffs, ten teams make it, only one wins. But let's assume we win the division. Then we are one of 8 teams with a shot. That's 25% on math! not counting what team is better. So we have a decent chance to get to a crapshoot chance to win a ring. That's how it is with any team. So the thought of trading Bundy for Lester doesn't sit well. Most people think that the best way to win a ring is to take you 5-10% chance as many years as you can. Not just try a little harder one year, hurting your chances in others. Think of it like the lottery. If you buy two tickets on a Monday, and I have one, you are more likely to win that nite. You're still not very likely to win tho. But if I buy one ticket five bites in a row, even tho I'm less likely than you to win on Monday, I'm more likely than you to win the lottery. Finally, where we'd be without Cruz and Davis this year,I would guess nipping at torontos heels for the division. Oh, and boston last year is definitely better on paper than we are now.

It is because of math. You could put Babe Ruth and Sandy Koufax on this team and the odds would not go over 18 percent. Too much time, too many hurdles, several sets of elimination series. The odds of winning a World Series with the best team are not good. Like almost everything in baseball, it's best to bet against.

Also, all potential free agents traded in season can not be offered qualifying and are not subjected to compensation. Part of the rules that have been in place for a couple years that changed the trade deadline and how teams with money would pluck the potential type A and type B guys to get the picks. Historical. The new version is more punitive to the trading partners and by most thoughts, more bland.

Giving up Bundy to a division rival for a two month rental of Lester would be the shortest of short sighted moves possible. Especially when rumors indicate Lester would resign with Boston in the off season. If Bundy pans out this would be a really bitter pill to swallow. I want long term success, not two months of really exciting baseball plus a crap shoot in the 2014 playoffs. I know they won't resign Wieters , Davis, and Cruz. Even with those guys the team isn't good enough without a true ace. Starting pitching costs too much via free agency. They've got to develop their own. Don't trade Bundy.

I don't need or want Dylan Bundy to flop to make my argument.

I am saying that I would gladly trade him for a piece that would push the 2014 O's over the top, and take the risk that he develops into a plus starting pitcher. I think the likelihood of Bundy becoming a TOR starter is lower than many choose to believe.

I could get on board with both of those. Does Hundley have options (or I guess in this case it would be an option)?

I believe Hundley is out of options. If we traded for Suzuki, I think we would see Caleb go down since he has options left.

I hope we don't get him. It's going to cost us one of our big 3 at least.

I sure hope they don't trade him and get a huge return. They have asked for players like Taverez and Seager. They want one top 10 prospect and another mid tier prospect. I am think we would ave to offer Bundy and Edrod.

Asdrubal Cabrera is being shopped. Orioles should be all over that. I would be ecstatic with Cabrera and one of Koji/Miller/Benoit. I also trust DD if he decides to trade for a TOR starter.

Can Cabrera play 2nd?.. I'd be ok with that trade. Probably would cost us Erod plus a filler.
