8:23pm: Pirates GM Neal Huntington tells reporters, including Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (Twitter link), that the player to be named later will be “similar” to Tarpley. It seems worth noting, then, that Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reported earlier tonight that fellow Class-A left-hander Steven Brault was a possible name that could exchange hands.

So perhaps we are giving up both?

This is just a very typical Orioles move for the last few seasons. Which means that it has a good chance of delivering modest value. The roster is certainly better with Snider in the mix for significant playing time.

I don't know why the hell anyone is comparing Snider to Upton. It would be like comparing Bud Norris to Max Scherzer. Just a completely different zip code.

Yeah, Upton is much better than Travis Snyder. We did not have a chance to get Justin Upton for the next two years. We did have this opportunity.
