Is a mid June time line reasonable for Britton?  

He cant come off the 60 day DL until May 28th. That means he can’t pitch in official milb rehab games until then. I’m assuming they are going to want to have him pitch in 5+ of those. 

Our bullpen didn’t start to implode until late May/early June last year. Brach, Givens, and Hart mainly. I think O’day was hurt and this was before Castro and Bleier emerged. 

Getting Britton back earlier than expected would be huge. If Castro can be another Givens for us, I think that’s more valuable that trying to have him be the 5th starter with the way we rely on the pen.

Can''t Britton start a rehab assignment while he is on the 60 day DL?  I am not saying he would be ready to do that but  I don't the the rules keep him from doing it.

Per Article XIX-C of the CBA and with the player's consent, a player on the MLB 10-day or 60-day DL may be assigned to a minor league club for rehabilitation purposes for up to 20 days (for position players) and up to 30 days (for pitchers), and a player on an MLB 7-day DL (acute concussion) may be assigned to a minor league club for rehabilitation purposes up to five days (for position players) and up to eight days (for pitchers).

With approval of the MLB Commissioner, a player who has undergone elbow UCL reconstruction surgery (so-called "Tommy John Surgery") may have his Minor League Rehab Assignment renewed for up to 30 additional days (in the form of three ten-day renewals).

With approval of the MLB Commissioner, if a player incurs a new (different) injury or illness or suffers a recurrence of the previous injury or illness while on a Minor League Rehab Assignment, the player must be recalled from his Rehab Assignment and remain inactive for at least five days (for position players) or seven days (for pitchers) before starting another Minor League Rehab Assignment. 

A player on an MLB DL who is assigned to a minor league club for rehabilitation purposes continues to accrue MLB service time, and does not count against the minor league club's Active Roster.

Zach threw a bullpen from a full mound today so he may well be ready by the end of 60 day DL, which is good news in comparison to the rest of the carnage ....

As a rental, a team doesn’t care about his shoulder. They just need 20-30 IP from him tops.

We're still patiently waiting for Zach to come back and give the bullpen a shot in the arm ........ perhaps another 3 weeks, or so.

Yeah, this would suggest mid-June is best case, sometime after the 20th, more realistic. He's going to have to have a stellar 40 days in Baltimore for the team to be able to flip him for anything besides spare parts.
