Just saw this on MLBTradeRumors:

Can't say I disagree with the 4 yrs at 10-15mil they are projecting.

I hope we re-sign him for something along the lines of what Kakes got.

I like what I have seen but his history troubles me a little.

In 5 of his 6 previous seasons he has only had an OPS+ >100 ....one time. By comparison Markakis did have an OPS of >100 in 5 of the 6 prior seasons going into free agency.

That is a little concerning and makes me wonder if he really worth 10+ million AAV over 4 years?. My concern is you sign him, your paying for the guy who put up numbers this year but getting a guy who put up worse numbers than Markakis albeit a couple years younger.

Still on the fence here on Parra but my gut tells me your buying high if you sign him this offseason.

I like the way he stings the baseball. I also like his arm. Alot. Especially when he throws to the right base.

There are things to like there for sure.

To me, it comes down to which Parra are you buying, this years version or the guy he has been in 5 of the past 6 years.

Kind of reminds me of the Travis Snider situation... though Parra at his best/worst appears better.

Yeah, I think he is worth 4 years at age 28. At close to $10 mm/yr I'd be interested. At $15mm/yr, not so much.

This is a tuff one I like what I've seen and I agree I am all over him at 4/10 as it approaches 15mm I start to hesitate, but I think I would still be in with something between 10 and 15.

He's only 28 in my book he's in prime time. ;)

I bought into Steve Pearce last year...

To be fair, I didn't think he'd quite repeat last year, but I didn't think he'd be as bad as he's been.

Some players just have that late click, so we might be seeing what he'll give us the next 3 or 4 tears. But how much do we bet on that? It's a tricky question.

Rather have Dexter Fowler. Better defender and historically a better bat. Ideal leadoff hitter and left fielder. Cost will be similar.

I like Fowler, too, though I've seen very little of him this year. Your last sentence is the key. Fowler is hot right now, and my impression is that a lot of baseball people like him. While he and Parra both have a lot of question marks around their future offensive production, I would expect Fowler to cost more, maybe a lot more, than Parra.

We are looking for help at 1B, LF, RF and DH. At least one of those four has to be a power hitter IMO, either Davis or another free agent. That will be very expensive. After we pay for that and a starter (Chen or another FA), I think money will be very tight.

    • I thought Chisholm missed home too. They didn’t appeal tho I don’t think.
    • Now run scores and Yanks take lead.
    • Inexcusable missed call in NY. Review Cleo at showed Chisholm out at 2nd. They upheld safe call.
    • Well, good on posters who proved the SSS side of "Guards Ball." I just found it striking in terms of the narrative in that article, which was basically the same as what most around here were complaining the O's lacked: clutch hitting, passing the baton, aggressive running, getting runners in from third, etc. I guess the real bottom line is "whatever works." Which of course varies from case to case. The old Bill James postseason wisdom was that HRs are the ticket, since you face good pitching and get so few hits. So back to you, Elias, keep crunching those numbers...
    • First, the had a jump in 23’ given how terrible they had been previously, which conditions many fans in the marketplace not to care. They simple weren’t relevant for years. So one very good regular season will not undue years of being bad/irrelevant and treating your customers terribly. Next, I think they missed an opportunity in the offseason by not doing enough by way of big/bold attention grabbing moves. Now I acknowledge that this was most likely due to the ownership flux/transition. I believe they got an attendance/marketplace engagement boost when they changed owners and when they traded for Burnes. However, I believe we would have seen more engagement attendance with say a big Gunnar extension and/or bringing in a big time FA.   IMO this would have created more buzz before the season (say around the time people make season tix decisions - IMO before Christmas is when some people make those bigger purchases). All of this is to say, that it will take time and effort on the organizations part because of how bad of a stain that the Angeloses left. I still have friends and colleagues who refuse to support the Orioles and attend games due to the damage that was done. Rubenstien & co are not going to be able to undo 30 years of awfulness overnight. But IMO it is not enough to simply call it “a new chapter”. They have to make new/different actions to distinguish themselves from who the Orioles were/used to be under the Angelos regime.
    • Just checking in on Gameday, Yankees looking incredibly vulnerable.  Should be the Os out there.  Super lame.  Whichever team wins this series I hope gets knocked out by CLE or DET.
    • If the franchise were better, the fan base would be too.  It’s been a rough 40 years.
