His 15.8 million dollar qualifying offer would have been better. For one season.

I'm kind of amazed that he had to settle for so little. Bargain for the Dodgers IMO.

I disagree. But that is the fun of message boards. I think we'll be fine in the outfield.

We are in roughly the same spot as we were last year -- a lot of guys who could be anything from terrible to decent, but nobody with a consistent track record except for Jones.

Going into 2015, we had Pearce coming off a 6 WAR career year, De Aza who had been decent at times and very good in his six weeks with the Orioles, Snider who had a decent 2014 featuring a very strong second half, Young who had hit well in 2014, and Lough, who had a great enough glove where he'd put up a decent WAR in 2014. Nobody as good or consistent as Cruz and Markakis in that group, but it was reasonable to think a couple of those would have decent seasons and you could mix and match your way to decent corner OF/DH production. You also had Reimold, Alvarez and Urrutia available to call up. I know there was risk involved and obviously it worked out terribly, but I can't say that it was likely the group would be that bad. Dan just rolled snake eyes, as literally every member of that group underperformed his career OPS and his 2014 OPS by a significant margin.

So here we are a year later, with Trumbo who has a better hitting track record than any of last year's guys but is a bit out of place in the OF, Kim who has been a very good hitter with a high OBP in Korea but we have no idea how it will translate over here, Reimold who stayed healthy last year and posted decent but not inspiring numbers in Norfolk and Baltimore but is injury prone, inconsistent and 32, Rickard who has a good MiL OBP but wasn't considered good enough for Tampa to protect, Alvarez who had respectable numbers in Norfolk but can't draw a walk, Navarro who has been uninspiring in four brief minor league stints, etc. I cannot say that this group overall has a better track record than last year's group. It's a very similar approach to last year's, and could turn out just as badly, or maybe DD will have better luck and this group will turn out better. There's a ton of uncertainty here.

White Sox don't want to give up their 28 Pick for Dexter Fowler

Dexter Fowler and Ian Desmond remain on the free agent market, and it appears either one could help the White Sox. One potential problem for Chicago, though, is that both players rejected qualifying offers. The Sox’ top pick in the tenth overall and will therefore be protected, but the Sox also currently have the No. 28 pick as compensation for the loss of Jeff Samardzija. “The draft pick has real value,” said Hahn. “A couple of million dollars worth of pool money, which allows you to be flexible with that draft pick or pay some forward or pay some back. … At some level, you balance the ability to improve this club versus the long-term impact that losing a pick like that would have.”
