Maeda anyone?

I think he gets posted today. It's doubtful the O's would be willing to try to outbid all the other teams that are interested (see Tanaka, Darvish, Sano, Soler, and any other top shelf foreign player...)

I think he'll be pretty good. Too bad he's not a lefty...

Max bid is $20M.

If you bid the $20 million to earn the right to negotiate with him, do you have to pay it if he signs elsewhere?

I don't think so. But wouldn't a bunch of teams bid the 20 million? Like 10. Then it might go in order of reverse standings to see who wins the bid. Idk, but I'm sure someone will clarify this.

Sure why not post the 20 million. Hold him hostage for a week or so and offer him 4/40 million. lol. So it'd be 4/60 with the posting fee. No pick involved with him.

Everyone that ties for max bid gets to negotiate with the player.

Its ironic that you complain about the team and then ask something knowing that it wont happen.

Thanks for clearing that up. That was a long shot anyway. Basically going to have to give that guy 5/75 plus the 20 million posting fee. That's more then Jeff S. got. At what point does Chen at 5/75 start looking like a good idea? We know he can pitch in the AL East. And we don't have to give our top pick. And he's proven. Maeda is a ?

That's probably why he doesn't get that much. He is a risk and there is no gaurantee. I doubt 10 teams go 20 million. But somebody will most likely

I don't see the risk in going 20. You get your money back if he doesn't sign with you. I don't think the money even leaves the team's hands unless a deal is signed.

Me neither, make the $20M qualifying offer and see whether 4/$40M gets you there. Probably not but no harm, no foul.

It's not ironic at all. I KNOW it won't happen. That's why I complain about the team.

    • I'm thinking it would be good to try moving Westburg to the top of the lineup for a bit and see how it goes. They need another right handed bat that is capable in the top 2 spots to balance out all the other top Lefties and I think Westburg's high average and good baserunning speed might fit the bill.  Certainly can be an option for when Adley gets a real day off. And Mateo or Urias can round out the bottom of the order (7,8, or 9) when they play and the team wants right handers in the lineup. Speaking of, McCann has been pleasantly surprisingly decent at the plate this season so far. I feel comfortable with him playing more to keep Adley fresh for the biggest games of the season (including the playoffs). I might like the idea of Westburg leading off and Henderson #2. But then, I also haven't put much thought into it which is why I hope the analytics department will dive into it to see how they could get more baseruners on base in front of Gunnar's At Bat. Like you guys pointed out, Westburg is hitting a nice amount of home runs too, so what's the point of of having him lead off if the whole idea is to load up the bases for power hitters like him and Gunnar to hit them home?
    • I did, several pages back when I said I guess he has another year in him. Then Pickles insulted me, and then I insulted his mom.
    • Yeah, there have been a few CRAZY team HR totals the last few years.  But I’d settle for 270.  😎
    • Why not?   Against lefties over their careers Hays has an OPS that is 200 points higher.   Yes, he has been in a slump.    A bad one.   Players are in slumps.   Until they come out of them.    You are vastly overreacting to 40 at bats.   I'm glad our manager doesn't.
    • I'll go on the record and say that I thought in real time I would have left O'hearn in there, just on the chance he gets a hold of one to tie it up.  Not that Hays can't, but O'hearn is on a heater right now and Hays is......not.  That being said, I get the defensive side of the argument, I just would have been less inclined to worry about that in a game I was trailing at the time. And Hays had to face a RH pitcher next at bat, in a tie game, I think it was to lead off the ninth.  Would have been nice to have O'hearn at that moment. All this being said, although I agree with Dystopia's point there, I am absolutely not on board with the argument that Hays is cooked, and all that.  Just not as convinced as others that this spot was the right one for Hays, primarily due to how good O'hearn has looked, and I would have liked to have seen how he looked against the LH there.
