VANCE RICHARD WORLEY O (vs. D-RAYS, 4/25)

2.33 shutout innings out of the bullpen in a close game.

25 Pitches (18 Strikes, 7 Balls.)

Ceded 1 single, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman (which allowed an inherited runner to score.)

There are 13 pitchers on the staff currently, and as far it seems, it's all hands on deck in terms of the 5th starter, spot starters, and long relievers for about 4 or 5 guys until the overall picture of the starting rotation becomes more clear.

It was nice to see Gausman pitch well in his first game back tonight, but I think that the starting rotation is still far from stable at the moment ...... particularly with Gallardo having just gone down.

Another very encouraging outing for Mike Wright. 6 complete, 2 runs. He is starting to settle in IMO. I think this young man is just starting to establish himself, and the best of Mike Wright is just around the corner. Now I know that is not the popular view point on this board, but thats how I see it.

That would be HUGE for this team but each start is a pitch or two away from disaster it seems. He needs more consistency.

Wright/Wilson making it interesting for when Gallardo returns. I still like Wilson. Good problem to have.

I'm wondering if it shouldn't be Jimenez who leaves the rotation.

I'm very pleasantly surprised with what we've seen from Wilson and Wright, especially Wright (from whom I didm't expect much at all). It won't happen, but when Gallardo returns I would have Ubaldo and him compete for the fifth spot, maybe skipping Wright or Wilson occasionally to keep their innings down. I think W & W are likely to be better than the loser of a Gallardo-Ubaldo competition, and for them (especially Wright) to develop an effective approach to pitching as a starter they need to start. Maybe I'm listening to Palmer too much, but I've never thought was possible (at least on topics other than Palmer).
