Why can't we beat this mediocre .500 team?

Easy question to answer if able to watch any of their games and that is because Seattle hammers out starters and their starter make our normally potent lineup seem woeful over matched. In other words a mismatch of their starters versus ours really exposing where the Orioles are weak.

We wont win series with regularity against any team that can pitch reasonably well, bevause frankly, WE cant. Our offense was fine last night. Our pitching was awful. That is the story for the Orioles in 2016. Without a miracle or suddenly an acquisition of a quality starter who wont cave after 2-3 innings...this team is NOT going to make it to the post season.

Agreed.

But there are no sexy solutions outside of mortgaging what little bit of the farm is left. So basically you're stuck with the Wilson, Wright, Ubaldo, Worley train with only Despaigne and Gunkel as backups.

So, yeah. Hope and pray that Gallardo has turned the corner and Tillman isn't turning into a pumpkin.

And yet the O's have made it through half the season "winning series with regularity" with this exact formula. It's not like we've lost our best starter or two for the year, and we are now shuffling to fill their spots. We've been winning with these guys. I think they can win the division with Tilly (assuming this is just a brief bad stretch), Gallardo, and Gausman, as they've done so for 80 games. I, too, hope they add a starter, though, to help our chances...

Man, the Mariners have absolutely exposed our starting pitching. Looking like a sweep in Seattle...

Not just our starting pitching. The front end of the bullpen has also been exposed. Chaz Roe and Ariel Miranda put some close games out of reach by giving up untimely runs.

This team needs Darren O'Day to get healthy, and it needs to trade for a decent lefty reliever.

No, this team needs Ubaldo out of the rotation and for Tillman to pitch well again. And another pitcher. And probably another reliever. And well...yeah.

Face good pitching and we will lose most of the time. We don't have the rotation to go up against teams like the Mariners.
