We currently have just 33 guys on the roster. I doubt we need 7 spots to be open. We can add two to three guys and still have plenty of space.

I don't think Gunkel can make it a full season on a 25 man roster.

Few scouts believe Gunkel is anything more than a long/mop up guy.

What team would want Gunkel as its #5? Gunkel is at best a mop up, long reliever at this point. I really hope Duquette isnt protecting Gunkel at the expense of a useful Rule 5 pick.

Why would they? He has shown to be average at best in a pitchers park. He can give you innings in a blowout, thats about it.

He is still eligible to for the Rule 5 draft even if he signed a minor league contract. (I didn't know the O's had signed him to a minor league contract)

Last year the O's signed Ji-Man Choi to a minor league contract on Sept 24th. He was drafted in the Rule 5 Draft by the Angels.
