Sam Dyson designated for assignment

This guy had really nice success last year at the backend of the rangers bullpen, grabbing 38 saves with a 2.43 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  

He hasn't been good this year but if we put him in the right role, he may succeed here.

They say he has lost the sinker. That's a pitch that may not come back for him. Outside of the sinker he appears to be terrible. He may be worth putting in the minors for a spell, but I can't imagine him in Baltimore.

Before we had this run of just dominat relievers this is how relievers were season to season. Volitaile. I don't think we can afford to have a project in the pen that can't work multiple innings or doesn't have an option. Flexibility is a huge thing. We've let two decent relievers in Roe and Drake leave because they were out of options.

McDowell was the master of the sinker in his playing days.  Britton has the best sinker in the business.  Plus, he won't cost much

A risk worth taking IMO.  The Orioles are obviously adept at fine tuning relievers.  You have got to play to your strength.

That would require Dyson to be on the active roster and McDowell not to have his hands full trying to sort out Jimenez,Gausman,Tillman ...

Don't think he has options, but I would still take a chance on him.  I doubt the cost would be very much.

 

His fastball has averaged 94.9 mph this season, down less than 0.5 mph from 2016.
