Tony, I hope you don't mind me starting this thread, but the natives were restless. ;)

A clear shift in drafting philosophy by JJ and the Orioles this year with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks being more athletes than baseball players. I hope it works out.

I like this pick more than the last two.

I don't think speed has to be synonymous with a low OBP guy. After all, this guy was one of the tops in college in that. The 2nd rounder may have been questionable as far as too "toolsy" goes but Hoes can be a huge bat and this guy a top of the lineup, Roberts-sort of replacement it seems. Everyone says Angle has great discipline but his OBP has been ghastly in the minors. I like the pick.

Kevin Goldstein (5:01:40 PM PT): Ah, I totally missed one here during my break. Baltimore's 4th rounder, Kyle Hudson, is better known for his wide receiver play at Illinois, but he's an 80 runner with a ton of range in centerfield who did a lot this spring in terms of improving his approach and baserunning to make some believe he can have some leadoff possibilities. He might be my new Orioles sleeper.

Did I miss something? Don't we already have the answer at CF? I mean, I know you want to draft for "talent" and all. But, when you are a team that only has a legit player at 3 positions...wouldn't you think that eliminating those 3 positions from your talent search might be a good idea early in the draft?

On the bright side, maybe we'll be able to rest Adam Jones 4 days a week in 2016.

I like this pick more than the last two.

Decisions like that ruined drafts during the pre-Jordan era.

If that's actually the go-to move now, he's done bumped his head.

You draft talent, not organizational need. Come on SG, you know better.

I understand that and I am totally fine with that.

But still, they have other areas of need and I find it hard to believe there weren't CI or MI available at that pick that we could have grabbed.

I am fine with taking BPA...You can always trade the player but this organization needs IFers bad.

Nice bits of info: He's 2nd all-time in career batting avg at Illini behind Darren Fletcher. He played 49 games in CF this year without an error.

Not so nice bits of info: Despite his great avg, he batted 9th in the order before moving to the lead-off spot. He hasn't totally ruled out returning for his senior season.

      For two years we talked about 7+ run leads possibly not being Baumann proof. I probably would have DFA'd Perez first, but I don't fault them here. They needed to get rid of someone and he was one of the two least reliable options out of the pen. I guess Perez got the LHP hard thrower advantage, even though he's not good.

      Boras has never had a guy sign a long-term extension with 2 years of service time or less. I'm sure it's something they will look long and hard at after the season. I don't expect that to change in May of this year, but I do think that if they make an offer that he turns down, people won't think they lowballed him.

      I know you can go to the MLB.com site and see a highlight with commentary and all that, but I had a hunch last night for this particular AB and got lucky.  Was enjoying myself too much live to capture either of the triples for timing purposes 😆  But it was fun hearing this huge crowd erupt as it was headed back to tie things up in the bottom of the first!

      Agreed. My point was that the fans knew the Nats were trying.  The Orioles have not tried.  People can say that we don’t know but Gunnar was asked and said there were no talks that he had any knowledge of.  No player should be upset if the Orioles came out and said they wanted some extensions.  And the fans are going to be happy they are at least trying. Right now we have no evidence they have even tried.  This is why many, including some defending saying nothing, were upset with Angelos.

      It's hard to hit your way out of a slump when you are on the bench. Mullins is going to get chances, I don't believe he's completely cooked.
