2018 Mike Wright

He always seemed destined for this type of role. He has a big arm that plays up in short stints. This could be very reminiscent of the switch for Jim Johnson who began to really show up in high leverage situations when he was 28 before taking over the closer's role and saving more than 100 games over 2012 -13. Wright turns 29 next season.

It seems like Wright has been around forever but he has accumulated very little service time. He doesn't reach arbitration until 2020. Were he to blossom into a power shutdown reliever, he could be a valuable trade chip. We may as well give him a chance. Nothing to lose.

Do you guys think he'll be our new closer with Britton and Brach gone?

I think so. Buck mentioned him without saying his name when discussing the new closer after Britton was traded.

He is also being used in my high leverage situations and coming thru.

I hate to say.....No, I don't hate to say I told you so. Mike Wrights talent has been obvious from the beginning. Giving up on arms like that leads to a lot of angst. See Jake Arietta.

He doesn't have near the talent Arrieta has

Why not at this point. I have becee been a huge fan but always thought he if would make it odds were better as a reliever.
