Well you could have said that 2 years ago? But bigger picture is his bat isnt ready.

Agreed.    Would love to have his defense up here, but we can’t have him batting .083 like he is in Norfolk.  It’s been less than a week there, so hopefully he’ll get it together in the coming weeks.

We follow sports because it is a break from the ordinary stressors in life. I get we are terrible. I saw failure coming after the Britton trade was blocked, writing on the wall....more ownership meddling but even I am shocked HOW bad we are. Kinda speechless, but it may be a blessing in disguise if executed properly.

And I know Davis is just awful, but he is a human being. He didn't steal the money. He was offered the money after DD didn't want to give it (our GM that was supposed to be in charge but clearly isn't). BUCK is the guy that went to Angelos. Why aren't people upset with Buck? Calling him names? And honestly it isn't his fault either-it's awful dysfunction. No chain of command.

Then I see people spiking the football on Hunter Harvey. He is worse than Hayden Penn from a health perspective....I knew he couldn't stay healthy...(I thought this about Bundy honestly and I was wrong, so let's not jump to collusions). First off, I wish I had 1/5 the talent of either Hayden Penn or Hunter Harvey. Second, Harvey is still young. Let's not give up quite yet there (separate issue from Davis IMO).

I am not trying to troll here but I think a point needs to be made. These are human beings. I am not saying we can't criticze them but really who gave Davis the contract? Who drafted a projected utility all-glove, limited hit SS in the first round this year? We need to hold ownership responsible, not Chris Davis.

This organization has not invested in international talent (look down the road and Juan Soto...a think of beauty at 19...international free agent signing). The org letting Buck bring in his own staff despite jettisoning much much much better coaches (Rick Kranitz comes to mind). The Manager going over the head of the GM to get Chris Davis signed? The lack of investment in scouting and scouts in general?

I know most don't mean harm, really. I get it. Let's just focus less on personal attacks of the players and focus on the big picture about how this org is broken and perhaps if we could refocus our energy to the FO on writing letters, emails. We might do some good. And I am not trying to be hollier than thou because I have bashed many a player (Gentry comes to mind because he seems like a swell guy but thought he didn't belong on the roster) so I will try to focus myself as well.

End this dysfunction and let's hope we execute some good trades for the future. We aren't competing with the Sox or Yankees in the near term regardless so let's do this rebuild right and fix what is broken.

Go Orioles.

Can we hit the pause button on personal attacks against General Managers? (you seem to be good at that) Let's focus on the big picture.

Go Orioles.

I can't bring myself to hate on Davis or any of them.  This was to be expected.  Hating on Davis or Cobb or any of these guys for struggling, would be like getting upset at a turtle for walking slowly.  I'm more upset at management, Buck, and the fan base that called for such signings and moves.

You know what's far more injurious to the Orioles than hating on them?

Ignoring them.

Without a paying fanbase, the team is nothing. NOTHING. Boycotting the games, refusing to pay for MASN on cable, canceling your MLB.TV subscription and putting in the reason "the Orioles suck" -- if thousands upon thousands do these things, it will hurt the MLB and the Orioles. And they should be hurting. They deserve to be as financially punished as possible for their ineptitude, because that's the only thing they understand. A serious hit to their bottom line is the only way the masses can influence the behavior or decisions of the ruling class.

And yes, MLB itself deserves to hurt maximally for this as well. This is on the system as much as it is on our guys and our management. The MLB's spineless handouts to the players and the MLBPA need to stop. The union should be disbanded and contracts should be 95% performance-based with a minimal living wage and top-notch health insurance whether they're injured or playing. Davis should be making $90k a year right now, not millions. If the struggle is real, then struggle harder and earn your pay.

How the hell do we do that? I have no doubt that Peter Angelos' arrogance, ignorance, cowardice, inability to accept the expertise or differing opinions of employees, and (more recently) indecisiveness and disinterest in the team's welfare beyond the present and immediate future have been the source of many of this team's problems. I've been saying things like that for close to two decades. Angelos's health situation may have made things a little different, but in a way even worse: uncertainty as to whether he remains the decision-maker or his sons have the authority to take or approve decisions may be thwarting the team from taking action at a time when action is needed.

It's been quite a while since I've seen anything in the media, or on this board, defending Peter Angelos.

But it's his team, and he always has been and still is free to screw it up as much as he likes. So what do we do?  Not go to games? How could anyone tell the difference? Go, but carry signs, or wear bags on our heads, or chant "Angelos must go" or something even earthier, or stage (another) walkout? Would anyone in the Warehouse care, or even notice?

It would really like to hold ownership accountable. But I don't have any idea how to accomplish that.

I apologize to you . I thought that other account was someone mocking you and not your alter account. I merged them.

I think there’s a difference between critiquing a player’s abilities (which includes the ability to stay healthy) and a “personal attack” on a player.   To me, a personal attack means attacking the player’s character, work ethic, hustle, etc.    Whereas saying a guy has lost bat speed or can’t hit a curve ball is something else entirely.

Why would it be wrong to criticize a  players hustle?  If he isn't running out ground balls he should be called out for it.

I might have you mistaken for someone else but weren't you the one  insulting DD even when we were winning?

Anyway we have the worst team in Oriole's history along with the highest payroll.  You should expect the players to be criticized and put-down.  A lot of the highest paid guys couldn't even be bothered to be at fan feast.  Really the only player I think that is really concerned about winning  is Adam Jones.

I am no longer angry about Chris Davis. I think of him as comic relief on our terrible season.  I know he has always been about padding his stats and not a team player.  Before this season it made me angry.  But now he has just become a punch-line.  If he keeps it up he will have plenty of National media attention.  People will be mocking him all over the league and with every sporting publication.

People seem very fickle. One day Bundy was untouchable as a trade piece.  A day later he was to be traded for a minor prospect.  Selock is our number 1 prospect next he isn't even in the top 20.

Anyway if a player plays solid defense, runs out every sure out, hits the opposite way, moves the runner over,  doesn't strike out constantly and works the count he will get my praise no matter how badly he hits.  Well no one does this and this is why we are in last place in the league.  We could use a player like Markakis who was always team first.

    • Another successful all Oriole grid, 36 rarity points:
    • He was allowed to face LHP.  My post wasn’t disagreeing with your post.  I was saying that not only did we let him face LHP, we let him do so despite not having much success against LHP.  I was pushing back against the narrative that we needlessly platooned Cowser.  Not only did we not platoon him, there is a reasonable argument that we should have platooned more than we did. We needed to play one of Mullins and Cowser in CF. Cowser mostly got the call vs. LHP because he was much better against LHP in the first half of the year, but this flipped in the second half.
    • From Adley to Basallo, I think Elias has eight Bats I hope we get to see all take 600 PA simultaneously some season. Adley was born in 1998, and until he arrived Elias Orioles baseball was bad by design.    For flavor, leaders of those teams like 1994-1997 births Mullins, Santander, Hays and Mountcastle are all between 10th and 20th among bats born their year.   Your team might be drafting Jackson Holliday if they are your club's best players in a rebuild, unless you have great pitching, which...haha, we know Elias' game. MLB Baseball is mostly played by guys 24-32.    286 batters cleared 300 PA in 2024 - about 12% were 33 and up by Fangraphs seasonal age assignments, about 8% were 23 and down. This is just a once a year post, but looking at Bats born from Adley's 1998 to Basallo's 2004, here's how the Orioles achievements compare with MLB's best by rWAR. 1998 - Adley is 4th 1999 - Westburg is 9th, and Kjerstad is 33rd 2000 - Cowser is 16th 2001 - Gunnar is 1st, and Mayo is nearly last, having dug a deep hole in his initial PA.    Trivia - Darell Hernaiz one of the 3 beneath Mayo.    Noelvi Marte dead last also has a PED suspension, d'oh. 2003 - Holliday is 4th - Minnesota the last weekend he got himself out of negative WAR territory. 2004 - Basallo is n/a as Chourio alone has played MLB from that birth year.    Basallo did log the most high minors experience of the 2004 births during the 2024 season. In 2025, Gunnar enters the 24-32 range as Judge departs it.     Cowser's improvement after an off-season a story of comfort for Holliday and Mayo - can they approach his ~3.5 win contribution? Strong, young teams - doing this exercise highlighted Adley's Orioles a little younger than the Braves and all their famous contract extensions.    Acuna, Albies and Riley were all born the year before Adley.   On the AL side of the competition, Yordan and Kyle Tucker also 1997 holding up a strong competitor, though not one that is young anymore.     Judge and Gerrit hoping Soto please stays.    Soto from 1998 - you have to reach back to 1994 for Correa, Bregman and C. Seager to find anyone ahead of him.
    • The Orioles have a lot of flexibility both in terms of prospects, money and potential veterans that hold value. Vets - I could see the Orioles moving on from any of Mountcastle, Mullins, Urias, or O'Hearn. These players may hold the most potential to bullpen upgrades. Money - The Orioles will certainly spend this offseason and that more flexibility than they have had.  I would like to see 1 or 2 extensions, 1 high profile FA, and maybe 1 more solid addition. Prospects - I could see any of the big 4 going somewhere.  I really think the Orioles and Pirates match up really well.  The Pirates have a plethora of young pitchers and the Orioles have young hitters.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the two match up.
    • The hitting philosophy works. That’s why they have been winning the last two years.     Plenty of runs scoring off HR’s in the playoffs.
    • They would probably want two of Mayo, Basallo, Holliday, and Kjerstad, plus other pieces (likely at least one good pitching prospect, so someone like Povich or McDermott), for both Crochet and Robert.
