Will Means's 2.76 ERA and five years of remaining team control make him a trade target, or will his .4.04 FIP scare off teams looking for pitching?

Considering that 4.52 FIP is league average among AL qualifiers, I doubt the 4.04 FIP would scare anyone away.    It would just dampen their enthusiasm.

Such a shame he did not get his chance in the All Star Game. He definitely earned it and is a long shot to be a repeat selection.

Now we can only hope he continues to be excellent and gets another shot in the future.

Alex Cora can kiss my behind. Who cares about extras, do they even still go to extras? Why? Just say I'm out of pitchers we forfeit and smile and shake hands. It's fun! Cora literally has one job tonight and that's to get everyone in the game. That's it! He could drink beers the whole game as long as he does that. Such a joke and disappointing. We changed his schedule around so he could pitch. Hopefully Means keeps pitching well against his underperforming team and sends him a get well soon card when he's fired this off-season. He's 9 games back from the Yankees with half that team injured. Loser

He’s officially in annals of Oriole All-Stardom, along with the BRob/Mora/Tejada infield, Flat Breezy, Cito Gaston, and Ty Wigginton.

I don’t know if he rises to the “Cito Gaston” level just yet

If you have 15 pitchers you can't get everyone in the game. If Means keeps pitching like he has this year eventually he will get in a game.

Couple levels below because Moose was (I think) our only rep but the biggest thing was because it was at OUR HOUSE!

I can't believe how much that STILL pisses me off! Cito SUX!

We aren't trading Means.  Why would you think that is even a possibility?

Yeah the Camden Yards thing plus Mussina had just come off an 18 win season the year before.  He should have been in the game

But they only had 4 starters pitch in that game.  The eventual 1, 2 and 4 in the Cy Young vote pitched.  Mark Langston was the other starter and he had a better year than Mussina that year.   I guess with everyone going 1 inning now he they get a lot more guys in.

They upped the roster to 30 too, didn't they? Or maybe it's even more, idk.

All because of THIS tie game...

They should just limit the game to 9 innings.  I see nothing wrong with a tie in an All-Star game.

I agree. The game does't mean anything. For a couple years it was for home field advantage for the next All-Star game but even THAT doesn't mean anything because it's just an exhibition game. Just slightly north of a ST game.

    • Too many eggs in one basket for me.  Usually you either go quantity or quality.  This feels like both quality and quantity.  You are trading away 3 possibly 4 guys that can go directly into their starting lineup.  You never see a 4 for 1 with that much major league ready guys.  It usually 1 or 2 major league guys then a few lottery tickets with some upside.   Cease got you one major league ready prospect, a 21 year old decent pitcher in AA, A young toolsy outfielder in A ball and a 29 year old relief pitcher in the majors.
    • I'm going to disagree because I don't think hit for average is considered an "elite athlete" tool.  Elly De La Cruz is an elite athlete, so was Bubba Starling.  Mateo is an Elite athlete. You can be an elite athlete and still not be a good ML player.
    • I think when people say "elite athlete" about a baseball player, they mean that someone has the proverbial five tools--hit for average, hit for power, run, throw, field.   Someone like (say) Ronald Acuna Jr. or Gunnar Henderson.    Obviously there are great baseball players who never had all five tools (Frank Thomas) and players who were elite athletes who could have been better had they mastered other skills such as plate discipline (Adam Jones).   The "five tools" framework means that most catching prospects, including Basallo, will never be considered to be elite athletes, because they lack top-grade speed.   And it's rare that you would hear a pitcher described as an "elite athlete".
    • They are not going to trade Holliday for one starter.  They need a couple of bullpen arms before a starter.
    • It's closer than the vote totals seem to indicate IMO.  I honestly wouldn't be against it because I do think Crochet is top shelf talent.  And it does cash out some strong/buried assets too. I landed on appreciating what Cowser adds all around vs. questioning the bump he'd provide for 2024.
    • If Skubal is truly on the table, I’m definitely of the mindset to give up one of the big three as a trade centerpiece. For me, that’s Holliday given the potential of Mayo slotting at 3B and Westy moving back to 2B. Skubal is exactly what we need to go win a WS this year.
    • Where's @DirtyBird to downvote everyone that's saying 2/3 is fine? I hate Oakland.  Hate, hate, hate Oakland.  Every year it seems that they give us fits for no good reason, especially in their place.  And @Frobbythat's not an invite for you to go do research and be like "well, actually" if I'm wrong.   I can't name 5 players on their team and I'm sure they'll give us fits this weekend.  But I see Brent Rooker is still on the team.  If he doesn't have 5 homers and 20 RBI against us this weekend, I'll be surprised.
