Smith, Jr. hit his 8th Home Run of the season against the Angels this afternoon, and is OPS-ing .843 overall.

It will be interesting to see if he can manage to OPS at least .800 over a full Major League season ........ it looks like this will be the first time in his career in which he will get a chance to do so.

It's somewhat interesting, both of his previous partial seasons he had OPS's north of .800, so his reference page has three straight MLB seasons with an .800+ OPS.

More generally, he's 100% the type of player we should have given a chance to this season.  Strong pedigree player (former 1st round pick) with good tools and some success to date who got dropped due to roster crunch and still has lots of control.  Currently on pace to be a ~3-4 win player per bWAR.

Smith just keeps rolling along. They are even playing vs LHP, and even when he was banged up a little bit. So his OPS hasn't been artificially inflated, just a SSS so far, but his overall MLB OPS is over .800. The guy is a ball player and should be great to have around the young OF prospects that will be up at some point.

I didn't read all of this. I'm curious if he could play center depending on who moves up in the next couple of years.

Maybe in a pinch.  He has below average foot speed.  He'd be one of the slowest if not the slowest CF in the big leagues.

Yea, but Cody Bellinger is on pace for 17 wins.

That'd be awesome.  Best season ever, for sure.

Tim Keefe once posted a 20.2 WAR in 1883 for the New York Metropolitans.

I thought maybe that big leg-kick in his swing would get him in trouble at some point, but it really hasn't.

He's also shown the ability to hit breaking pitches.
