Wow, Trate only lasted a month!   I wonder what happened?     Better now than after the start of the season, I guess.

Roch had this:

Quote

Radison is a former minor league catcher who’s been a coach with the Padres, Cubs and Nationals. He was fired when Davey Johnson replaced Jim Riggleman as manager in D.C.

Astros ties are prevalent with Radison, connecting him to executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias. He worked as a special assistant in Houston’s player development department in 2012 before being named interim first base coach on Aug. 19. He was hired as assistant hitting coach in 2013.

Radison also served as hitting coach with Houston’s Double-A affiliate in Corpus Christi from 2015-16.

In another small baseball world moment, Radison was expected to become Double-A Bowie’s hitting coach in 2012, but a delay in making his hiring official led him to the Astros organization. I reported his hiring back in October 2011 and it fell through.

Sounded like he wanted to spend more time with the family than be coaching in Delmarva. Though it might be a better family area there, with the beaches nearby, than say Frederick.

Thing is, Trate lives in Bear, DE. That's a hike back and forth to Salisbury. Much shorter drive to Aberdeen from Bear that could be easily commuted everyday. I wonder if he had his sights set on Aberdeen and didn't get it. 35 mins versus almost 2 hours. And I do believe they hired a hitting coach for Aberdeen this year.

But the point is, he was hired as the Shorebirds’ hitting coach in early February.    So what happened in the intervening 30 days that made him change his mind?    I don’t know, but I suspect he found out that the time demands on a pro coach are a lot greater than on a Division II college coach, and he didn’t think it would be worth it.   Looking at his Twitter feed, there’s no mention of his change of heart, but there’s literally nothing about his Shorebirds job after the day the staff was announced.

Does anyone know anything about Dan Radison?

This is kind of a weird bump, but here’s a great article written last week about Radison.   He’s an old friend of Elias and Sig’s, and basically agreed to be the hitting coach at Delmarva for three months as a favor to them after Matt Trate changed his mind about joining the O’s organization. Now that the season’s done, he’s retiring.     Good stuff in the article about some of the methods the O’s are using to analyze swings and teach hitting.
