I'm willing to give Elias a little benefit of the doubt.   He's made some decent waiver pickups who have helped the team (Ruiz, Alberto, Severino).   He's gotten guys cheaply who have contributed at least a little (Broxton, Armstrong).

No, don't have high expectations for the guy.   But if we ARE able to trade a starter such as Cashner, we are going to have to have SOMEONE pitch the innings the rest of the season, and it's obvious Elias isn't going to rush anyone he considers a real prospect.

Good take.  We're pretty much in the expansion team portion of this rebuild.  Our near "MLB ready" prospects have either flopped, or been injured.  It's best to make sure they are healthy and productive in AAA.  No reason to burn any service time before September, at the earliest.  Just fill the team out with guys from other orgs. that might "need a chance".  Let's see what they can do.

I have no idea what the Phillies are going to do with this int'l slot.  It is encouraging that Elias has some solid relationships with other GMs.  That alone may be the positive to take away from this.  The Phils bascially gave us this guy.

This is a move to get more depth.  I think people are missing why they made this move. They have 40 man on the roster right now and Trumbo has to come off the 60 man Dl in the next week, that means someone is going to have to come off the 40 man and good chance this is a pitcher.  My guess is that Rogers is taken off the 40 man and this gives them a back up plan for another starter if someone claims him and we lose him to another team.   He fills in at Rogers spot in AAA and doesn't take up a spot on the 40 man.  Basically they are trading Rogers for him in case someone claims him.

My guess is that Bundy will be traded for a pretty good prospect in the next couple of weeks and we'll need a starter.

Who wants Bundy enough to give anything meaningful for him?

Aside from Seattle, haha

The cost of this acquisition was so little and so meaningless that it makes me wonder if there is an actual rule in the rulebook saying that you cannot give away a player for nothing. The international signing period resets in about two weeks. Slot money at this time is less than useless.

Any team looking for a pitcher with a few years experience who has turned his season around and pitched well his last seven outings.

Well, we shall see. If I am the GM of a continuing team, I see several red flags in Bundy. However, I would be happy to move him if we can get something in return. The pitching in Texas has seen a resurgence, and in Minnesota as well. Does Tampa need anything? Can we get anything from NY?

Thing is, you can find stretches of 7-10 outings each of the last two years where Bundy was very good.   All in the first half of the season, though.   I think GM’s won’t bite on Bundy unless he’s pitched well for a longer period, right up to the trade deadline.

Some people feel our talent is so valuable, just not valuable enough to keep. :)

Bundy is like the little girls with the girls, when she is on, she is sooo fine. :)

I think Bundy has made adjustments, and has finally been forced to acknowledge the fact that he is no longer a power pitcher.

He's still learning how to be a finesse pitcher and there's no guarantee he'll wind up being a good one for a long time.

But I think he's on the right track to get the most out of what his arm has can do.   I think he's gotten good coaching and is trying to implement what they ask him to do.

It may take a year or two before we know how good Bundy 2.0 is going to be, but at least he has put Bundy 1.0 behind him.

Bundy has bee decent most of his career as a starter not just little 7-10 outings.

This is the half of Bundy's as a starter.

    • Too many eggs in one basket for me.  Usually you either go quantity or quality.  This feels like both quality and quantity.  You are trading away 3 possibly 4 guys that can go directly into their starting lineup.  You never see a 4 for 1 with that much major league ready guys.  It usually 1 or 2 major league guys then a few lottery tickets with some upside.   Cease got you one major league ready prospect, a 21 year old decent pitcher in AA, A young toolsy outfielder in A ball and a 29 year old relief pitcher in the majors.
    • I'm going to disagree because I don't think hit for average is considered an "elite athlete" tool.  Elly De La Cruz is an elite athlete, so was Bubba Starling.  Mateo is an Elite athlete. You can be an elite athlete and still not be a good ML player.
    • I think when people say "elite athlete" about a baseball player, they mean that someone has the proverbial five tools--hit for average, hit for power, run, throw, field.   Someone like (say) Ronald Acuna Jr. or Gunnar Henderson.    Obviously there are great baseball players who never had all five tools (Frank Thomas) and players who were elite athletes who could have been better had they mastered other skills such as plate discipline (Adam Jones).   The "five tools" framework means that most catching prospects, including Basallo, will never be considered to be elite athletes, because they lack top-grade speed.   And it's rare that you would hear a pitcher described as an "elite athlete".
    • They are not going to trade Holliday for one starter.  They need a couple of bullpen arms before a starter.
    • It's closer than the vote totals seem to indicate IMO.  I honestly wouldn't be against it because I do think Crochet is top shelf talent.  And it does cash out some strong/buried assets too. I landed on appreciating what Cowser adds all around vs. questioning the bump he'd provide for 2024.
    • If Skubal is truly on the table, I’m definitely of the mindset to give up one of the big three as a trade centerpiece. For me, that’s Holliday given the potential of Mayo slotting at 3B and Westy moving back to 2B. Skubal is exactly what we need to go win a WS this year.
    • Where's @DirtyBird to downvote everyone that's saying 2/3 is fine? I hate Oakland.  Hate, hate, hate Oakland.  Every year it seems that they give us fits for no good reason, especially in their place.  And @Frobbythat's not an invite for you to go do research and be like "well, actually" if I'm wrong.   I can't name 5 players on their team and I'm sure they'll give us fits this weekend.  But I see Brent Rooker is still on the team.  If he doesn't have 5 homers and 20 RBI against us this weekend, I'll be surprised.
