And to think I was just having a disagreement with folks that didn't think it was possible that the Orioles would prioritize shedding payroll.

I want to know if the Red Sox are on the hook for his as yet unpaid signing bonus.

Apparently, the Phillies were the only other team in on him. I guess Elias thought the Red Sox offer was better.

I like the deal.  By getting players this young, we can let them grow in our system and play our way.  As opposed to older, higher level, flawed players which is what  more "traditional" return for Cashner would have looked like.

Elias is putting his money where his mouth is.

He has thus far...in a frank and transparent fashion.  I have not heard a Duquette-ism from him....He seems quite confident in his process of analytic decision  making, feels he has little reason to obscure this reasoning and has offered this very openly to us fans so far.
