Eh.  Sounds like a nothingburger. Of course any decision of that kind would have to go to ownership. And of course they aren't actively pursuing those kinds of trades.

First off I think you can blame someone for doing something they said they would do.  If someone was running for president and they said they were eliminating all Social Security payments and they did it when elected I could certainly blame them for the results of that action.

Second I don't think he laid out his plans to sell off players for very low level prospects in his second year who are at best 4 years away from helping the big league team. 

Also, I will give you some credit. You are one of the few Elias supporters who plans to continue to attend a large amount of games the upcoming season.

The Astros have also indicated that they would consider trading Carlos Correa.  So it's a case by case basis, as it should be.

Correa refused to sign extension. If he was willing to sign a Bregman type deal he would have been extended.

Eh, I know you didn't intend it to be click baity but...Connolly can't really confirm it.  Elias doesn't confirm it.  Connolly certainly dances all around it and certainly makes everyone think that this is the case but stops just short of getting a definite quote that leaves no doubt.

So yesterday Mike mentioned that the conversation with Boras last year was more that Davis had a real down season and would get back to what worked and contribute fully last season. 

This year's conversation is that the Orioles have specific things that they require of their employee. He did not do the things they wanted last offseason unsupervised so they would be making monthly visits this offseason to Dallas to inspect what they expect. It would probably only be twice or three time. Orioles also have limited team resources in Dallas, so the were partnering with the Boras group to help supply the swing coaches and trainers that would help implement specific work so that the Orioles were able to gain some value from his player. 

Its a performance improvement program for a  player.  His representation is aware of what negative results from this will mean.

You can trade Luis Aparicio, and get back Don Buford in return, when you have an elite defensive replacement like Mark Belanger ready to step in. I like to look it as upcycling players. Chiming in on the Astros window and their moves; some of their decisions have been headscratchers. The second Altuve extension was questionable, particularly the timing. They had him for another two years at insanely cheap rates before he was a free agent and now he is very expensive and is starting to have trouble staying on the field for the whole season. That is most likely going to continue as he moves into his 30s, even if he is very productive when on the field. 

Letting Charlie Morton go led them to have to trade for Grienke taking on more money and losing prospects and pretty much sealing the deal on a Cole exit. 

I wasn't a part of the negotiations with Morton or potential negotiations with Cole and maybe neither of them wanted to be there much longer but with hindsight it seems feasible that the Astros could have had Verlander, Cole, Morton as their top three or even Verlander, Grienke, Morton.

      A lot of guys on that list have also just had a very hard time staying healthy.  Haskin has done some good things but missed a lot of time.  Servideo missed a lot of time.  Ardoin actually has had a decent career so far for a 4th rounder. Reed Trimble is another guy that just can't stay on the field.  Looks like he made it about 2 weeks this year before going on the IL yet again.  Not sure what the injury is (yes RZ I did google it :))

      What a bummer, especially means. Glad we got to see some vintage Means in his first start back. I'd love to bring him back on a two year deal

      What he's been able to do at the plate has been a nice pick-me-up for the a team that has had multiple hitters struggling at the same time. For me though, watching how he's handled 2B this season has been a treat. The tag on the SB attempt last night was a play that not all 2B make.    There's been times I would have traded or released him for nothing, but right now I'm really glad he's still here.

      If he stays right where he is right now hitting .245, he has very nice value. On pace for a 3-4 war season. As a secondary piece, that’s huge.

      Adding relievers should be the priority, but that doesn't mean Elias won't look to strengthen our staff or add a hitter as well.  I'm not expecting us to trade for Luzardo, but it's a possibility with the injuries that our staff has been through.

      Luzardo is a really interesting target. On one hand, he is your Burnes replacement. A guy with high end starter potential (although less of a sure thing than Burnes) who you would have for 2 more years. OTOH, it feels like he could be a ticking time bomb…and yes you can say that about most pitchers but some are worse than others. Im not sure im giving up Povich or McDermott in a Luzardo deal because we just don’t have much depth right now after them. A year or 2 from now, the depth has the potential to look a lot better but we aren’t there yet. Besides the obvious 3 prospects, DeLeon, Povich and McDermott are the next 3 guys I really want to keep if possible. Everyone else is on the table although I certainly would prefer to use other intl guys vs Liranzo and Sosa. Using some kind of combo of Kjerstad, Stowers, Norby, Fabian, any of the veteran OFers/OHearn/Mounty and any of the draft picks from last year are amongst the group of guys I would be looking to move first.  Try to build a package(s) around that group of players and see what you can come up with.
