Orioles legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. joined Twitter on Tuesday to announce that the charity he runs with his family in honor of his late father, the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, was diverting some of its resources away from its typical mission to fight the hunger crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

In coordination with Cal and Bill Ripken, the foundation announced a $100,000 donation to Feeding America to launch its Strike Out Hunger campaign, with Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and the Kevin Harvick Foundation contributing an additional $150,000 to start the program.

Legendary MAD comic artist Mort Drucker dead at 91.  He became ill in NY in the last week and had trouble breathing and walking.

Loved his art growing up as a kid.  Sadly I think MAD magazine is no longer publishing.  He was truly a great at his field.

Um, what has this thread become?  I came on here to rant about my $400 bucks that the Orioles won't refund "yet" for Opening Day and I see such a odd range of posts that I don't even know where to begin?  Is this bazzaro world?

    • Grayson’s first 10 starts of 2023 compared to this year: 2023: 45.1 iP, 57 H, 37 ER, 21 BB, 56 K, 13 HR 2024: 57.2 IP, 54 H, 21 ER, 21 BB, 65 K, 6 HR He hasn’t been quite as dominant as he was in the second half of last year, but he’s getting it done.
    • The 1997 Orioles started 50-23 (111 win pace) and finished 98-64. It's rare for a team to stay this hot for all 162 games.
    • Elias sounded like he’s interested in figuring out a way to retain Means: “This is not career-ending. We're going to get him back in good shape. But this surgery takes time." Means, 31, is a free agent after the season, further clouding his future in Baltimore and in baseball. He signed a two-year, $5.925 million contract in May 2022 and avoided arbitration in January by agreeing to a $3.325 million deal. "I think the first step is taking care of this and we're going to support him and we have a long relationship and he's a special member of this organization, just given everything that he's done," Elias said. "Obviously, we talk a lot, so I'm sure we'll be dialoging with him as we get him back on his feet medically. He's going to make it back. He's a big, strong guy, and once he gets this elbow injury fully behind him - which hasn't really been the case, it seems like, going back into last year - I think he's got a lot of really good pitching ahead of him." https://www.masnsports.com/blog/means-and-wells-undergoing-elbow-surgery
    • It's the Yankees. It's pride, regardless of anything else.
    • To be honest, it depends on whether the division would be a step down, a step up, or expected. In 2022, everyone would have been overjoyed at 3WC. In 2023, we would have been furious. Now expectations are high. A WC is still playoffs but a huge disappointment. Not just considering the importance of a first round bye and R&R for the guys, anything less than a division title is a disappointment.  The division is the goal of the season. And I hate the Yankees. And I’m annoyed every time we lose a game we should have won.
    • Bummer that it's a full TJ, which is a longer recovery than the brace. Hope it works out for him. It sucks, he only got 44.1 major league innings out of his first surgery. Maybe the fact that they were very good innings helps make sure someone takes a chance on him.  It'll be almost 5 years post no-hitter by the time he can take a big league mound again.
    • I think the O's should consider matching and upping what other teams might be offering.  It might only be a minor league deal.  Even if the prognosis is really good I doubt the O's do anything like a qualifying offer, but bringing him back on a small deal makes sense.
