If they can find someone on waivers/trade they think is better than Bannon I'm all for it. He isn't "owed" a chance, but in the absence of better options, I'd like to see him

A lot more than Yaz did.  

In all seriousness, he hasn’t done a ton and I don’t expect him to be a long term answer but I would like to see him get 300ish ML at bats this year and see if he can be a bat off the bench long term.  By handing him the starting job early, he can get those at bats while waiting for other guys to see who stands out and perhaps can come up as the season goes along.

He does have a career 850+ OPS in the minors and did well in a SSS in AAA.  Hopefully he can hit enough to justify giving him the at bats.

Alberto isn’t a bad platoon option, I just don’t feel the need to keep seeing him.  Ultimately, I would just like to see them trade for someone who is blocked that has better upside than any of these guys.

You mean other than pitching?

He also is also better defensively than Ruiz at 3rd, atleast from the eye test.

I remember some good plays at 3rd by Stevie but his stats suggest that he commits a fair amount of errors at 3rd.
