Both Tyler Wells and Sceroler could proven to be more valuable than Pop.  They may add to the starter depth in the near future.   I would like to have Pop back though.

I think it’s totally false that Elias has been conservative, at least in the way you are using that here.

But no, Hall better start in AA.  No reason not to.

Not as much as starters, but they do learn how hitters react and what they need to improve upon.

A good example would be Blaine Knight who dominated Low-ball hitters with fastball up and out of the zone and curveballs in the dirt for the most part as well as the fact that Sally League hitters would go after more pitches out of the zone. He found out that High-A hitters are more patient and his lack of command led him to eventually pitch too much in the middle of the plate and he got hammered. I'm sure he took that lesson on what to work on that offseason but unfortunately the 2020 minor league season was wiped out.

Personally, I would jump Fenter up to AA and put him in relief and see how the fastball-curveball combo plays in two-three  inning stints.

Interesting, how is that false? Making your prospects spend nearly a full season in each level is a conservative approach in modern times. He calls that conservative, himself, but I suppose you can call it something else. I won’t quibble about semantics. I’ll be over here shrugging my shoulders, sipping my bourbon. 
 

Meanwhile, John Smoltz was speaking on MLB network a few days ago about Bobby Witt Jr. and stated he  would tear up the minors and would be the 2021 AL Rookie of the Year. Now that is aggressive promotion.

Meanwhile, John Smoltz was speaking on MLB network a few days ago about Bobby Witt Jr. and stated he  would tear up the minors and would be the 2021 AL Rookie of the Year. Now that is aggressive promotion. 

I think he is promoting guys at a pace to where they are all ready to be up at a similar time frame.  
 

I don’t feel anyone has been held back outside of Mountcastle and that was for service time reasons and even that wasn’t that big of a deal because they were trying to figure out where to play him.

Elias has also barely been in the organization (2020 really doesn’t count) for us to truly label him anything yet.

I agree with what Mike is doing, though like you, I am among many who questioned leaving Pop unprotected. As far as development, I agree with him, and everything you wrote. I do think that he is doing what is right for the players and the organization. I do think it is conservative compared to many others, including the previous regime here. But he is in a rebuild, so in fairness, he has the luxury of being patient. When we begin competing for playoff births and the payroll rises, will he still have the same approach? IDK.

Yea, it’s probably too soon but who knows how much he has grown since he last played pro ball.  
 

Was he at their camp last year?  How did he fare?  Lots of questions.

Hard to believe he makes the team and they spend the service time but I would guess starting in AA is likely and if he plays well, he could be up soon enough.

Because, generally speaking, the faster a player reaches the majors the better their career.

He turns 21 in June.  Lots of highly touted guys are in the majors at 20-21.

Exactly my thoughts. We’ll see, I guess. He may be the once in a generation type, or they may set him back. He’s a heck of a talent though, for sure.

      Yeah like Tony T but Tony has the ability to foul pitches at will.  I want Cowser to be more like @waroriole’s Rob Refsnyder and Holliday to be Steven Kwan.  Is that too much to ask of number one picks?  But I love Cowser and most of everything he brings.

      I can't say The Wall gives me all warm fuzzies but it doesn't swing at pitches a foot outside the zone or take a meatball right down the middle of the plate. It doesn't fail to move a runner over or lay down a decent sacrifice bunt. I've never seen it fail to get a hit with a runner in scoring position. At some point The Wall will probably be modified some but you build your team to play best in their home ball park. It's called home field advantage. IMO, Westy is the best right handed bat we have right now for this park. We need someone else like Westy that plays outfield. Bregman would be nice but I don't see it because of Westy and I have hopes Holliday becomes the OBP lead off hitter we need. Note - I'm still pissed but it's getting better. I think I'll live for another season.

      I’d like to see a study showing that team spending is more closely correlated to owner net worth than team revenue.  There are rare instances where a team owner will subsidize spending (e.g., Cohen) but that’s the exception not the rule - and note that Cohen owns 97% of the Mets vs a much lower % for Rubinstein.  Rubinstein has already been explicit that he is not in this to lose money.

      Cowser’s  swing decisions are determined before the pitch is even thrown. And I’ve been saying this all year, and I even said this at the game. I go it’s too early to pinch it for him because his defense is too good but he is 100% going to strike out and that’s exactly what he did with bases loaded. He decides whether he is going to swing a pitch before even thrown This is why he swings at a pitch thrown pretty close to his face . And To be fair, he  had a pretty good season doing that but obviously can be  easily exploited

      Cowser's progress was one of the more encouraging elements this season, especially on the defensive side. I was already crediting him with being Some Kind of Good major leaguer a post back. Between his and Adley's standout bad performances on the HBP and 2-0 count, I give Cowser more of a grace.     Sure he had predetermined intent to swing, but I think the follow through was some raw instinct as hand bones fractured. Adley not swinging was the lowlight how incapacitated he was.    I believe he commands the strike zone, but to feel so low you can't pull the trigger in that spot...sheesh.

      I believe Elias plans to bring in two more SP's, the quality isnt what im sure about. But no question he'll want to replace Burnes. Which is why I didnt comment in this thread yet because Povich might not have a spot open at the beginning of the year.

      So a “Pollyanna” then like me, @wildcard and others (joking of course) 😇 I’m in your camp but really wonder if Elias/Hyde and Co. can truly“flip the script” as @Just Regular alludes.
