He gave up a couple of hard hit balls, and had a little bit of command trouble at times, but I'm nitpicking a guy who struck out 10 in 4 innings and has yet to surrender a run in three starts. What stood out in this start vs his prior start was his slider. It's a swing and miss pitch, as is the curve. His fastball was mid 90's again. Very encouraging, but I'll pump the brakes a bit on my comment about moving him to AAA. He is clearly better than anticipated though. Personally, I like him more than Lowther, Zimmerman, Akin, Wells.

Agree on all points, well said. The slider, which has a very similar break (Maybe 1-7 vs 12-6) to his curveball but harder, really is a nice pitch that brought very late and hard. His command of his fastball was off a bit as he missed high quite often, but he certainly looks like a guy who has placed himself right behind Baumann on the start pitching prospect rankings.

Kevin Goldstein from his chat today:

Guest: Thoughts on Kyle Bradish? The Orioles have really been hyping him since the alternate site started last year, and he’s been dominant in his few starts this year.

Kevin Goldstein: The stuff is really good, and if he hones the command he could be a valuable starting pitcher.

Hopefully, we actually reach that point - so we aren't perpetually looking ahead 2-3 years.

I'm just hoping this isn't the case of the Calvary again and we end up with a couple solid bullpen arms, one solid starter and trade away the one that ultimately ended up being the best. I think there's a bit more depth and quality this time around so I'm crossing my fingers.

With John Means becoming a real weapon. I'd love to see the Orioles keep and build the rotation around him. If Bradish ends up being a good starter, that's two guys that seemingly overshot their projections from a couple years ago. That would be a great starting point and take some pressure off as we would no longer be dependent on Hall and Rodriguez both reaching close to their potential. Still, with Means, Bradish, Hall, Rodriguez, Baumann, Lowther, Baulmer, Akin, Kremer, Wells, Smith, Stallings, etc. we have a crop of arms that should be able to at least produce the strong basis of a rotation and potentially a couple swing/bullpen arms. We are getting some concerning things on a few of the arms, but some very bright news on others. That's going to happen some will rise and some will falter and fail, but given the depth, we may be a in a good position starting by mid year next year.

Is it too much to ask that our starting rotation next year is Bradish, Means, Rocker, Hall, and GrayRod?

...with Adley as their starting catcher?

Wait another decade?

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone here fantasized about some future rotation, or how some current rotation would gel.   Bedard/Cabrera/Loewen.   Matusz/Tillman/Arrieta.   Bundy/Gausman/Harvey.
Things just never go quite the way you hope.

One of these days, Lucy won't pull the ball away when we're ready to kick it.

But will Elias be there to do it for her?
