Well the point is that he made $3 million + in salary, plus persiem( whats MLB per diem? Not nothing) plus he has free healthcare forever, and a pension, so he’s not going to be living under a bridge.

Unless it’s an extremely nice bridge.

I was surprised to see he got a $1.85 mm signing bonus.

Ruiz has needed to go for a long time.  He was always a place holder with little hope of even being average.  Instead of Wilkerson, I wish they had brought up Bannon.  Wilkerson is more of a utility player.  Bannon might be no better, but lets find out what he can do.

Either way it took me 10 of my best years in sales to cover what he collected as a mediocre ball player.

Yes, it might seem harsh, but I want everybody to get their health care and their 44 days for a pension, and everything else is gravy.

If Sisco gets released tomorrow he never has to work again, but he’s 26, and has 40 years of work ahead of him. He-or anyone-will be fine.

There are probably ten guys in the org at the time who deserved it more than Yaz, based on what they did in the minors.    And I doubt Lil Yaz would have had any trouble putting a roof over his head, with a grandpa who made a lot of money for his time (though a ridiculously small fraction of what players make today).   

You know a guy who I really wish had gotten his cup of coffee?   Garabez Rosa.  He had nearly double the number of MiL games as Lil Yaz.  And he probably had very little to fall back on (not that I really know).

I'm pretty sure Caleb Joseph got well over 44 days, his pension and lifetime healthcare.  I would say Joseph had a pretty decent career as a backup catcher.

I just checked Caleb Joseph had almost $3 mill in lifetime earnings.  If he saved appropriately, he should be good.

Caleb just signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on May 7th trying to hang on to what's left of his playing career. I think Caleb will have a career in coaching if he wants it when he retires for good.

Rosa definitely was a player who should have gotten his cup of coffee. He actually wasn’t a bad player. 
 

Someone else who I wish got a shot: Drew Dosch. Left handed hitting 3rd baseman who retired to go into teaching and coaching because he fell out of love with baseball. He would have had a shot at the MLB roster the following season too.

Yes, he did, and praise God for that, but before then, when he was languishing at Bowie, that’s when he was delivering pizzas. I want all the long-term minor leaguers to get some time in the sun, I want them to be able to run out on the big field and take their four at-bats.

Caleb eventually did just fine, and I’m very happy for him. But he spent a lot of years before that call up, wondering where his next tank of gas was coming from.

Paraphrasing Hans Gruber, Ruiz is an exceptional ballplayer, Ms. McLane.  Just not quite exceptional among the very exceptional, in an avocation that employs 780 players at any one moment and in a normal year brings in over $10B.
