Is this team bad enough for the number 1 pick?

Good luck with that. This year’s draft is make or break for me regarding Elias.

You're such a rational poster, I'm surprised you'd make or break Ellias based off a draft when none of the players he's drafted have had a chance to prove themselves yet.  That seems very unlike you.

I mean it is kinda his fault that Adley hasn't had a chance to prove himself.

I agree we shoulda spent 40 million on this years roster so we could win 78 games.

Please find me some example of me advocating signing 40 million worth of talent to add to this roster.  Heck find me an example of me wanting to add 10 million worth of talent to this roster.

Good news.   We can get any of the 1st three picks and be in good shape.  Elijah Greene, Termarr Johnson, Jace Jung.   I'm good with any of them.

I love Jace Jung and would love to get him with the second pick next year. Is he eligible next year as a SO?

While you may think Adley should be at the show, only two players have debuted from his draft class to date, Vaughn and Manoah. So it's not as though he's immensely behind schedule or an insane outlier.

He was also the 1-1 in the draft and a college player.

?? He played the '20 season at Tech and the '21 season. Next year he will play his third season before the '22 draft.

CoC, you very frequently complain Ownership won't spend, you also seem to think they also won't spend by slow rolling brining up minor leaguers to qualify for ML minimum...but honestly, I thought by saying 40 MM you would realize I was just picking on you.  But no worries.  Down vote away.

Why does the latest mock have us taking another catcher?

The mocks have been all over the place.  If Davis is the pick, it's because he's seen as the best player available.  He is the consensus top college bat and should be able to play in LF or 1B.  It's not clear that he sticks at C.

    • Dont think their going to move on from Urias. Their going to have to get creative to him ABs.
    • 1. The new owner needs to sign Burnes, Rutschman, and Henderson to long term deals. Consider similar deals for Westburg and Grayson. 2. Don’t really care about short term trades that supposedly get us to the WS. More interested in long term success. 3. Willing to trade any of Hayes, Santander, Mountcastle, Stowers, Norby, Beavers, Bradfield, or lower prospect for RP or 4,5 starter.
    • Who is wasting away in the minors?  No one is the answer.  They gave Holliday second base and he wasn’t ready despite the majority opinion here at OH.  Stowers and Norby aren’t here because there are better players at the major league level.  Mayo is not wasting away.  If he doesn’t come up until next year it won’t hurt his career one bit.  They want him to get better at defense or he would be here.  They will move someone in the offseason to make room for him and Holliday if he shows he is ready.  At 20 years old he can spend a couple more years in the minors and still won’t be wasting away.
    • For me it’s not really a “faith in Elias” thing.  I won’t be disappointed in Elias if that’s the outcome.  I’ll be disappointed that better outcomes weren’t really available.
    • There’s a reason I track various stats every 27 games.   It’s for discussions like this.   Here’s Cowser: xwOBA: .390 through 27, .365 through 54, .362 through 81, .351 through 90.    wOBA: .439, .337, .332, .320. I can estimate, knowing Cowser’s PA in each of these periods, that since Game 27, Cowser has an xwOBA of about .335 and a wOBA of about .272.    Doing the same exercise with Hays, since Game 27 he has an xwOBA of about .340 and a wOBA of .409.    Even if you believe that the difference between wOBA and xwOBA is entirely driven by luck (I don’t), Hays has the slightly better xwOBA over the last 2+ months.   If you believe that none of the difference between wOBA and xwOBA relates to luck (I don’t believe that, either), then Hays has absolutely demolished Cowser over the last 2+ months.  My view is, the truth lies somewhere in the middle of those two extreme views and Hays has hit significantly better than Cowser for 2+ months.  But this isn’t just about Hays, it’s also about Kjerstad and Mullins.   Finally, I just want to repeat that in addition to getting poor overall results for 2+ months, Cowser has been particularly abysmal with RISP, high leverage, etc., as detailed in my prior post.  And you can see that when he’s at the plate in those situations, he hasn’t figured out how to aporoach things.   For me, Cowser’s time should be cut back unless and until he starts performing better.
    • Yeah, I'm going Friday too and keeping an eye on the forecast too.   Looks like a bit more than just the typical hot summer day where there might be thunderstorms popping up here and there. But it's still early.
