I get that it didn’t exist but the production itself still existed.  That’s the point you are missing.

The 2 years prior to the trade, he was still an elite player.  The only thing that jumps out is in 1965, his Ks went up a lot.  Why?  Slower bat?  If so, maybe that’s why.

As for your last part, it depends on contract status.  It depends on what he’s owed, how long he’s signed for, body type, what his other skills are, etc…but yes, my normal way of doing of business would be to not have players signed to big, long term deals well into their 30s.  There will always be exceptions to any rule but that is absolutely the rule I would have and in most cases, I will be right.  Sometimes you miss, like with Nelson Cruz but I’m ok with that.  I’m ok with not being the team that hopes you sign the exception to a rule to a long term, expensive contract.  I’m good being the team that trades a player a year too early as opposed to a year too late.  I will win more often than not with that mindset and give me the greater odds everytime.

Well in the 60s the reserve clause still existed, so you're largely just trading players based on skills and not on finances.

I hope he does too. Nice way to "talk him up" leading to the trade deadline

Lol, I think most of us had the same reaction to Elias' quote on Mullins.

i.e. if you're going to come with a trade offer for Cedric, it better be a godfather offer. I want to keep Cedric, but you do have to at least listen if a team calls asking about him.

Something I never expected I would think in 2021:  I so wish at least one other player on the O’s would have a slugging percentage close to Cedric Mullins.

Nice to see him picking up from where he left off so far.

    • Lots of panic around here right now. Guys forget the Rangers were third in their division and only had 88 wins last season.
    • This is my favorite Basallo clip so far. The swing is so fluid, it looks so effortless and the ball is just absolutely destroyed. It reminds me of homers by prime Chris Davis.
    • The Orioles were bound to hit a rut. Get your hand off the panic button.    The Orioles aren’t signing Bauer. So just Fudget about him. The don’t need to trade Holliday and Kjerstad. I’m okay if he finds a guy worth paying a top guy return along with a few others ala Kirby, Gilbert, Castillo etc.   Stop patting yourself on the back. We lost as did everyone else to a hot Rangers team. We are still 7 up in the top wildcard slot. And as Texas proved is all you have to do is get in to have a shot.
    • It’s becoming unglued?  Because of losing streak that almost every team goes through in any given season?  Really?
    • The Os pen isn’t good. With DC out, they just don’t have any arms you want to rely on. They don’t miss a lot of bats, don’t get a lot of Ks and the walk rate is higher than you want it to be. Kimbrel is fine but nothing special. He has been exactly what I thought he would be and maybe even a little better than that but hes not what we had last year, which was special. Cano is better than a dime a dozen guy but not by a ton.    Baker looks good and maybe he’s poised to have the year some of us thought he would have in 2023 but he has a ways to go to prove that.
    • Yes, I bolded that part to indicate that was to what I was referring.
    • This group hasn’t burned you though. This is the biggest test for Elias since the team got good. The bottom line is the Os need pitching help and they have too much talent in the minors and too many subpar guys in the majors eating up at bats. You built this farm system up and are so proud of it and now it’s time to use it to its full potential.    I understand the Holliday injury likely sets him back until after the AS break, at least but assuming he’s hitting (which he has been or he’s been walking a ton) and once he is able to start throwing pain free, he needs to be up here.  Mayo needs to be up here yesterday.  It’s just time.  Sitting on ML ready top 10 prospects when below average MLers are playing in front of them just doesn’t make sense. You have a glaring weakness of too many lefties and a manager/GM that just won’t play lefties vs lefties. You have McCann playing way too much. Mayo needs to be up here right now. And then you need to use the rest of the system(and maybe ML team), not Basallo, and go get the pitching you need.
