You did see where I said I hated the pick?

Him being the BPA has zero to do with his health issues, they are completely separate things.

I don't dislike the pick because he got sick.  I dislike the pick since I didn't think the guys we got overslot made up for what we lost going underslot.

Ditto

Dumb question, but when exactly did the Os find out about this condition?  Was this not something that could have been discovered during a predraft physical let’s say? (I know little about the mlb draft)

They do not do pre-draft EKGs.

“They’re young, they’re healthy, they’re very determined individuals and they have world-class healthcare at their fingertips and we’re pushing every button we can push. So I think his odds to return are very good in that respect, but to have anyone, let alone a high draft pick like this, miss this amount of time, it’s obviously been a bummer. But he’s first and foremost what we’re thinking about, and rushing this along for baseball and pushing through medical recommendations for baseball, that’s just not going to happen.”

Elias also said the condition couldn’t have been detected earlier and can’t be blamed on an organizational oversight.

“No, not at all, not at all,” he said. “It’s just a bad piece of luck that it’s happened to this kid, and it stinks for him and we’re going to help him through it and he’ll get through it. He’s proven, really, how tough he is through this.”

Bit ominous that Elias isn't guaranteeing a return.

Its a bit ominous to say it's a bit ominous, huh? ? (green font).

I mean he did say there's a very good chance. That sounds very good to me. Not ominous.

I had not heard that Covid was involved.  Where did you find that information?

Myocarditis is "associated" with Covid. Has not been confirmed but you have a pandemic and athlete with no history of it who has been in locker rooms. It's an Ockham's razor thing.

You can cut yourself with one of those if you aren't careful.

We gain nothing by assuming a connection.

Myocarditis is usually caused by a viral infection.  I expect that Kjerstad did not develop the condition until after the draft.  Whether it was COVID19 related or not doesn’t really matter.  With that said, there appears to be an increased risk of myocarditis after COVID19, but that is still being studied.  Moreover, 18-24 year olds are developing myocarditis at a higher rate after receiving COVID19 vaccination.
