The 2021 Orioles may have sucked, but I am going through major withdrawal

But hey at least Elias succeeded in his goal.

So he enjoyed the season.

And I agree mostly with what he’s doing. However, 2022 needs to be a year where Hope emerges and Elias shows were ready to win in 2023.

Post draft of 2022, He will have had 4 whole drafts to bring in his players. We will have picked #1, #2, #5, and #1, overall.

It’s time to stop the tanking. Look we’re not going to win in 2022, but it’s time for Elias to start making moves at the MLB level to improve the team starting OD. I’m not asking for anything that would cost long term pieces. I don’t necessarily agree with signing bullpen pieces to FA contracts until you absolutely are competing. However, he can start working the waiver wire more, and maybe make some depth trades with other orgs that have depth pieces that we need.

An example would SS Taylor Walls from TB. Yes we have we have Westburg and Gunnar.  Walls is a spare part for TB. They only have so many 40 man and 26 man spots. So they’d likely want someone from A ball that they don’t have to worry about protecting for awhile.

Aside from the obvious improved mainstays, I enjoyed:

Valdez's Stu Miller impersonation at the beginning of the season and Mateo's Flash near the end

Harvey's streak of scoreless innings after the All-Star Break

Mancini's Home Run Derby

Gutierrez's defense at third base

Hays showing what he could do as a regular starting outfielder

Urias' bat control

Galvis proving to be a capable one-year (maybe two?) replacement for Iglesias

Finally giving up on Sisco and Ruiz

Sticking with the rookie starting pitchers long enough for some of them to throw good games in September (until we ran into the Toronto buzz saw in the final series). Good for them to rekindle hope for the future.

I really enjoy the offseason in baseball (and other sports).  That’s the team building time. It fascinates me on a lot of levels.

I just wish I rooted for a team that cared about team building.

Their care has certainly been far more focused for draft/international signings.

At least this year the international signings are off-season, so there should be a bit more to talk about this winter.  Hopefully it isn't limited to that.
