1985 Radio Broadcast at California Angels: Roy Firestone Impressions

Found this 1985 recording.  Tremendous Keith Jackson and other Roy Firestone impressions.   Almost tragic listening to Jon Miller describe the action and the classic players, particularly given the broadcasting dreck fans were given  during the Jim Hunter years(except for Joe Angel.)

Let me tell you the back story.

Jon Miller was the Orioles play by play man and is,one of the great mimics Ive ever heard.

He invited me to call a "live" game and had me do all kinds of voices of celebrities in EVERY inning.

One this night, Eddie Murray of the Orioles was on fire.

Remember... we are live on radio.

Im doing a Howard Cosell impression when Eddie hits his first HR.

Funny...no problem.

The next at bat for Eddie...Im doing a goofy Keith Jackson impression.

He hits a SECOND HR!

Were all laughing and still having a good time.

The third time Eddie is up, Im doing a Harry Caray impression and its really "over the top".

Eddie hits a THIRD HR!!!!

Now all our laughter is died down.

IF EDDIE HITS FOURTH HISTORIC HOME RUN, we have no useable calls because Jon and I were being silly.

The fourth at bat WE ARE STRAIGHT AND SERIOUS.

He hits a baseball a mile. And its driven deep to the warning track.

It almost goes out of the park but is caught at the wall.

Eddie ended up with 3 HR's that night..and almost a fourth.

Jon and I vowed to never do that again.

We almsot had history in front of us.

We had 3 un-useable calls and if Murray had hit the fourth out of the park..Jon and I may have just as well left the park too...AND NEVER COME BACK!!
