hey guys first time on here..... how do we know this guy wont turn into another javy lopez or some big waste of money that has happened in the past?

It is also my first post, but..

Tex is 28, Javy was 33 and coming off his most outlying year.

Tex has a sterling health history, and consistently good numbers. Javy was often injured and his numbers were up and down (OPS+ of 104, 89, 74, then 169) before we signed him. Tex is always in the same general area (OPS+ 150, 141, 163 and 151 for the last four years.

They are really drastically different players. Tex is far better, and a much better risk.

i have been an orioles fan for a while..and i got to meet brian roberts w/ the family after the final game of last season (my dads a dr, and took care of b-robs grandma) and i asked him if he liked it...and he said i like it, but i really want to win, and after a while it gets old...tex could turn out like that. Although Tex did grow up, loving the Orioles and Cal

Well Javy Lopez had an enormous season in his contract year prior to his signing (I believe 40+ HRs after a few years of 15-20). He was not the consistent force Teixiera has been. There is always the possibility of injury risk (especially with catchers) or a drop off in stats when bringing players into the AL East; but in order to contend, that is a risk you have to take. Taking it on a guy with 5 straight 30+ HR, 100+ RBI seasons is justified.

While there are no guarantees in life, Tex is a proven talent, who can potentially help the club a great deal for a long time, if he stays healthy.

If we had this guy at Bowie we wouldn't be interested in Tex.

,

True, I did forget about Lars when writing that.. but even still. Can you imagine who or what they could get by trading him if they SIGN Tex??? They give up NOTHING to get Tex and still are stacked behind him.

Anderson is 20 years old.

Ortiz, Lowell and Youkilis are all free agents after 2010. Anderson might just be ready for MLB by then. They could split him this season at Portland and Pawtucket and then start him at Pawtucket and mix him in during 2010. By 2011 he would be ready to take over a full time MLB gig for his age 23 season. IF he's ready by then. That's a pretty optimistic/accelerated development rate for him. Boston has been very conservative about breaking young guys into MLB - Youkilis was optioned down many times after it was clear he was ready.

The Red Sox only have three players total signed beyond these next two years, in fact - Pedroia, Matsuzaka and Drew. Drew would be an expiring deal in 2011.

I think one of the major reasons for their interest in Teixeira is that they have pretty much no one signed long term. They have lots of good young players under team control - but basically no commitments. If they feel there are no impact/premium free agent middle of the order bats on the horizon they have the money, opportunity and (apparently) desire to go all out for Teixeira. Silverman yesterday said they view him in this light as a "must have" target of opportunity, much as they did with Daisuke.

Same thing for Angels (and in fact it works for Manny to the Angels). People look at the roster and assume they cant fit guys - they certainly can and it makes sense in lots of ways.

I really hope that what's going on with Furcal doesn't happen to Tex in the event that we agree on a deal. It seemed all but done with Furcal to the Braves. And now the Dodgers want him back. Eeek! How POed would you be if reports say Tex comes here and then Boston jumps in. AYYY

I would go to Boston and find a way to make the Red Sox pay for their crime against humanity.:laughlol:
