Teixeira watch part IX....The final stages?

The question is, how much of an improvement is it with a healthy Lowell?

Obviously, Tex is better but is it worth it for the Sox to spend that kind of money?

Of course, who knows if Lowell will be healthy and if he is, will he still be the same player he was before?

What kind of defense does Youk provide at 3rd? I know Lowell is(was) pretty good and Youk is pretty good at first, but anyone have any idea how he is at 3rd? Just curious!

heres an attempt to discern the actual upgrade in wins Tex gives the Sox from http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/sox_therapy/discussion/teixeiras_potential_impact_on_the_red_sox/

Youk at 1B: +20 wRAA, +4 UZR, - 12.5 positional adjustment, +20 (above replacement level) = 31.5 runs above replacement

Lowell at 3B (~130 g): +2.6 wRAA, +7 UZR, +2 positional adjustment, +17 (above replacement level) = 28.6 runs above replacement

Total: ~60 Runs above replacement

Now here's now it looks with Tex coming in to play 1B and Youk moving to 3B:

Teixeira at 1B: +33 wRAA, +1 UZR, - 12.5 positional adjustment, +20 (above replacement level) = 41.5 runs above replacement

Youk at 3B: +20 wRAA, +9 UZR, +2.5 positional adjustment, +20 (above replacement level) = 51.5 runs above replacement

Total: ~93 Runs above replacement

Total improvement: ~33 runs

For those who don't know what all these stats mean, its basically a 3-5 win upgrade which is important in what looks like to be a dogfight of a division. Not sure Dunn will make much of a difference in the Sox lineup.

No I'm following you man, thanks for that research. I pretty much could have predicted Tex would be an increase of 3-5 wins over the production of Lowell. Still, my heart is with the Orioles, so I have to say...Tex is coming home. NO doubt...no sources, just belief.

hes average to below average at third, definately not as good as lowell, but hes is definately more valuable playing at third than first because of his hitting.

i dont think its safe to assume either lowell or papi come back 100% next year and with drew's history of injuries a lot could go wrong this year without tex. Even if all those players stay healthy and perform well, it would still be difficult to compete with the yankees and rays. I don't think tex is such a luxury to the sox as many think.

Good point about Ortiz...He certainly is needed for them.

The question I have is this...When the Red Sox lose Tex to the Orioles, what is their next move? Will they make a push for Fielder?

No Free Agency, they'll have to trade since they don't have any open positions now anyway... except for catcher but I don't see them trading for a Victor Martinez or Joe Mauer.

Has bigbird commented on the Tex stuff the last couple of days? I was just wondering if he is still hearing that Boston is still in the lead or not?

His last comment was that his source told him that "TEX WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE AN ORIOLE" however he hoped his source was wrong.

I noticed you used "when" and not "if". Are you feeling more confident today than you have? Are you hearing from the insiders in PM?

I think they may go after someone through trade, or they may just wait for Lars Anderson. He should be up at the end of this year (assuming we don't have Tex blocking him) if his progression continues. I'm just speculating though.

I would think the Sux would work a trade for Teagarden or Salty? Or am I just dreaming here? At least I think that's what Sux fan's would want...I'm probably mistaken.
