Who do you want? Who do we take?

Recommended Posts

I listened to some of the MLB Pipeline podcast that dropped yesterday. Jim Callis said in his next mock he is going to go with Termarr Johnson at 1.

He made a comment along the lines of Johnson wants to be number 1 and he can see him taking less money.

The mock is coming out Thursday.

The stats someone posted a couple of days ago have me rather worried about if his hit tool is as good as advertised.  The only way I can see it being acceptable to pick him 1-1 is if he's a legit 70 hit guy.

I do not see the sense in trying to save money at 1-1 when you already have the largest pool and have the Mets sitting there with the 3rd largest pool, two first round picks, and an owner more than willing to spend over the cap.

I’m sure there will be 50 more changes until draft day. Not sure what to think about any of it.

Pretty obvious but I think that unless the Orioles think Jones is head and shoulders above the rest they aren’t taking him. My guess is they don’t.

Of course.

For what it is worth Mayo is not against the idea. They both must be sold on his bat.

Right.   If you believe that Johnson is the best HS hitter in a decade or so, you can justify him at no. 1 even though he’s short and a likely 2B.   But if you have any doubt at all about the hit tool, that choice becomes unjustifiable.   But who knows what Elias & co. think about that?

Yeah.  Three strikes and your out.

1. Termarr looked pedestrian against high level pitching in the Perfect Game Classic.

2. His stats through 8 games in a summer would bat league he's currently in are poor.

3. Keith Law believes his hit tool is more like a 60 than a 70 due to swing and miss against better pitching.

My order of preference.

1. Jones

2. Lee

3. Holliday

And Law said 60 at best.

I’ll take less too, I am destined to be one for Elias. Imagine the savings!

I had Lee higher until I realized the injury history. Jones, Holiday, Green or Parada for me.

If they really are considering Johnson, I'd prefer they just pick Lee.

Law also said Joey Ortiz was our no. 7 prospect and would probably be in the majors by August.

It only matters what Elias & co. think.

True. He also liked Adam Hall a lot.  Still, I respect his opinion and it matches my suspicions.
