Agreed. Adley’s pitch framing makes him elite.

Better hitter, yes. But I still like Adley’s overall patience at the plate a little bit more.

Anyway Reed looks decent. Arm motion reminds me of Givens. I’m assuming that’s already been said though.

Gunnar will have an advantage with his speed over Adley and not being a catcher. Should have more infield hits.

Will have to see how shift effects things.

Crazier things have happened, but the O's will need one of the team in front them to collapse. I still want them to play younger player and prospects, which may be the best way to go to sneak into a wildcard spot.

For sure. Pretty confident in ADLEY and GUNNAR. Mountcastle has picked it up and Hays has even had a good few games. Santander has been pretty consistent. Excited.

And hey; we won the Beltway showdown again!

If you remember what are some other guys around that percent?

He must have enough runs to get rated...he's 90th here, around Victor Robles and Whit Merrifield.

If anything I would guess the data so far might not have his top jets, though the one tonight was certainly one.

Wow.. good on Mom going into protective mode.

I went to Montreal about 6 or 7 years ago. Almost bought an Expos powder Blue t-shirt jersey just for fun. Great city though.

I've yet to visit the city as an adult. I've heard so many great things about it.

Great memory and story. I never once doubted the authenticity of it - no one lies about Ron Fairly encounters.

My recollection is that the foul ball resulted in a significant amount of blood and screaming. As a small kid I was scared that another foul ball was coming our way.

I’m sure many people know this but Gunnar was Alabama Basketball player of the year in some classification. He wasn’t the best player in the whole state but still.

I know many pros were good at other sports but this kid is special.

Reminds me that Brooks was offered a scholarship to play at Arkansas.

Now it’s looking like we ll need to catch Tampa. We ll be 4 back after today.

Three problems with that:

  1.  We don't play Tampa 6 times like we do Toronto so we need a lot of help from other teams.
  2.  We went 9-10 against them so they have the tiebreak (vs Toronto we have the tiebreak).   So being 4 back of Tampa is really like being 5 back.  Sucks that they took away tiebreak playoff games.
  3. Having that 3 game series at the end of the season with Toronto meant that all we had to do is get within 3 games by October 2 and we'd at least have a fighting chance, basically a 1982 style situation.   If we are 3 back of Tampa with 3 left, sure we are still in it mathematically but not only would we need a sweep but we would need [whoever] to sweep Tampa too which would be a complete pipe dream.

So the Jays taking 3 of 4 is actually quite bad for us, hurts our chances bigtime.

If we had beaten Tampa ONE more time, we would be one game better, they would be one game worse, and we would have the tiebreaker two so instead of what is essentially a 5 game deficit right now (4 with them having the tiebreak), it would be just 2.   Someone go back over our 10 losses to Tampa and find The One That Got Away.

    • Wieters' bWAR was 13.3 through his first 4 seasons (2009 - 2012).  It ended at 18.3 after his last season in 2020, so he was basically ineffective for the last 8 years of his career. Adley's bWAR is 13.1 through his first 3 seasons. So it isn't like Wieters didn't have a strong start to his career just like Adley did.  I think the concern that folks have is that the rest of Adley's career will play out like the rest of Wieters' career.  It seemed very unlikely halfway through this year, but this has been one hell of a drop-off.   And after Wieters never lived up to expectations, it is definitely a fear that we may be reliving this again.  Let's hope this second half was just an aberration.
    • Adley has been in a horrible almost 4 month slump. Before that, he was the WAY BETTER offensive player. But I pose this question: What does it matter if Rutschman turns out to be worse than Wieters? Matt Wieters was drafted almost TWENTY YEARS AGO. No one in this org had anything to do with him being on our roster. HEck none of our current front office was even here for his entire Orioles' career.
    • I do feel like Adley is out of shape or at least has gotten more out of shape than usual. That’s part of the reason I think he’s hurt…not working out as much. If he is healthy and the slump is this bad, I’m ok questioning whether or not the new GF(ie the distraction) is part of it. Is he putting everything into the game that he should?
    • Can they? - Yes it's possible. Anything is possible.  Will they? - I have my doubts. The team was abysmal (minus Cedric Mullins and O'Hearn's pinch hit appearance) with the bat in their hands yesterday. And for many of our hitters this was nothing more than a continuation/carryover from the second half of the season.
    • Right now Geronimo Gil is better than Adley.  But I'm not gonna kick Adley while he's down.  Let him get a reset, work on some things in the offseason, and hope that this 2nd half ends up being just an aberration in a good career.
    • Which is crazy since they put 7 on the board vs Ragans hitting all singles. They had an approach that worked and then they went away from it.
    • It’s what this board does.
