It's 107 during that same 2016-2022 period.

And I didn't want Eovaldi anyway, but he is clearly the superior pitcher when healthy. Obviously that is a big caveat in his case.

True, but there is room for both, and also we don’t have much SP in the pipeline. I get that Elias doesn’t want to be hamstrung by a FA SP bust, but we also don’t draft pitching. So a multi year deal isn’t so risky. What is risky, is entering the season with what we have. Especially considering that we have these extremely valuable Adley years.

Yeah just spending big time risk free agent dollars after a 94 loss season..

I don't necessarily agree with their strategy, but at least they aren't banking on a bunch of reclamation projects all experiencing post-30 career renaissances.

Yeah, it’s just the “when healthy” part.  Nobody doubts he’s a better pitcher than Gibson when he’s actually available.

If he was less fragile, I would have been okay with the Orioles signing him, even with the draft pick compensation.

It’s a huge risk to blow year 2 of 6, of Adley. We’re a blister, and broken fingernail, away from having to start a reliever form of Wells/Voth, or an emergency start from Baumann or Zimmerman. That’s how you miss the playoffs.

This is pretty much exactly what they are banking on with Perez, Heaney and Odorizzi. Health wise they are banking on deGrom throwing more than 100 IP for the first time in 3 years as a 35 year old.

Not really. Perez, Heaney, and deGrom were all good last year, unlike Gibson, Frazier, and McCann. Hoping they can stay healthy is an entirely different matter.

Apparently the Orioles disagree since that appears to be their plan currently.

I agree, which is why I wanted to add two decent mid-rotation starters this offseason.

We have added zero so far and there aren't any left available in free agency.

The problem for the Rangers is who is going to pitch when Heaney and DeGrom go down.

You sound like a Blue Jay's fan. Oh well.

Do you recall that critical four game series at home against the Jays, in which they showed up looking like a playoff team and we showed up looking like a team that had been eliminated a month earlier... I'm frustrated b/c I don't see how we've made the moves necessary to beat the Jays in such a series next year.

But it's obviously better for ownership to keep money in their pockets and hope that Spenser Watkins is more valuable than Nathan Eovaldi!  Because why try to improve the team when you can save money?

I guess I just don't understand your logic. So Gibson and Frazier's 2021 seasons were flukes but Perez and Heaney's 2022 seasons weren't?

To be fair, Eovaldi wasn't going to "save this offseason" either. Really, the offseason is only "saved" by the Orioles going out and winning.

No, He wasn’t.  But Eovaldi and Lopez (or someone like him) would have been good.

At least Eovaldi doesn’t cost us talent.

The future of this team depends on Henderson, Rutschman, GRod, Hall, Cowser, Westburg, etc.

Not saying I wouldn't like to see Rodon here but there's potential without big add ins.  We did pretty well against the Jays until the last 2 series.  The bullpen and rotation were on fumes and the offense went to sleep.
