He is 4 for his last 22 with 3 of those hits coming in one game.

At this point, I think it’s fine to call him up but I could see them giving him more time to see if this is just a SSS type slump or if he is actually about to go into a longer drought.

He’s 5 for his last 16 with 1 double and 2 homers.  SSS slump over!

I don't see the rush to move him up.  He's very young, and enjoying his first success in pro ball.  He's also a catcher, so they often need more development time (at least those catchers who aren't drafted 1:1....)

Shorebird Trivia

Which player has a higher stolen base total in the '23 season to date...

Catcher Creed Willems?

or

Shortstop Carter Young?

I’d go with Willems.  Young has only been on base like 3 times all year.

No Willems again tonight. As others said must not be too serious since they haven’t IL’d him (yet), but still seems odd.

Btw, I met him at ST. Went to Twin Lakes for a day in mid March. I was the only fan there that day. Very likable guy. Took the time to talk baseball and what the ST experience is like in between live BP sessions. He and Basallo stood out from the crowd. Hitting tanks all over the place. I’ve been wanting to post this sooner, but based on what I saw firsthand I could sense a breakout was coming from Creed. Both of them were nice enough to autograph a baseball for me.

Basallo is freaking huge. I’m 6’ 4” 200 lbs and I felt small near him. Crazy he’s only 18.

Looking at Milb.com, Willems was put on 7 day IL on 5/13/23.

Looking at the Delmarva Roster, they have 5 catchers on it and 3 are on 7 day IL.

Double and homer tonight both off of LHP.   Despite playing in only 27 games due to minor injuries (Basallo has played 35) Willems is top 5 in the league in homers, rbi, and OBP and leads the league in slugging and OPS.

    • I have two tickets to Game 1 of the WC which I cannot use due to work travel.  Section 352, row 4, seats 9 & 10.  Asking $70 total for the two.  Paid $205 to the Orioles as a season plan member.   PM me if interested.  Paypal preferred.
    • Can't make game 1. I'll be at game 2...last time I was at a playoff game at Camden, we beat Scherzer and the Tigers.
    • He should be taking fly balls all winter.
    • That was a lot of fun. Felt like there are certain elite seasons that had to be part of the team, and then tried to build from there.  Outfield depth is a little shaky, as is the rotation — though the latter is probably mostly unavoidable. The lineup would rake and the bullpen would shove, so pretty happy with this combination.   C 2022 Adley Rutschman (5.4 rWAR) 1B: 1998 Rafael Palmeiro (6.3) 2B: 2005 Brian Roberts (7.3) 3B: 2015 Manny Machado (7.5) SS: 2024 Gunnar Henderson (8.9) LF: 1999 Brady Anderson (5.9) CF: 2021 Cedric Mullins (5.9) RF: 2008 Nick Markakis (7.4) DH: 2013 Chris Davis (7.1) Bench: 2003 Melvin Mora (4.7) Bench: 2006 Miguel Tejada (4.5) Bench: 2011 Matt Wieters (5.2) Bench: 2001 Jeff Conine (2.9)   SP: 2000 Mike Mussina (5.7) SP: 2007 Erik Bedard (5.7) SP: 2019 John Means (4.4) SP: 2002 Rodrigo Lopez (3.7) SP: 2010 Jeremy Guthrie (4.5) RP: 2016 Zach Britton (4.1) RP: 2023 Felix Bautista (3.0) RP: 2004 B.J. • Gray started off well  but then ran out of steam a bit. He's not getting any younger. I was interested in him last year but I think the Cardinals overpaid and his contract only gets worse.
    • A bit. Nothing life changing, but the format seems…Cleaner.
