Bundy ejected tonight against Norfolk

I read tonight that Dylan Bundy was ejected tonight against Norfolk for having a sticky substance.  I find this very sad.  His fastball is gone and he is trying to hang on my any means possible.  I always liked the guy.  I guess it is tough to have been the labeled top pitching prospect ever to where he is at his still young age.

That first appearance v. Sox was so awesome.  To be 30 having made 30MM in baseball is nothing to sneeze at.  He had a solid career.

He was a victim of a bunch of guys thinking they had everything figured out and no one else knew what they were doing.  His weight training regime, throwing routine, etc… created the injuries that we was just never able to truly come back from.  It’s not his fault. He was a kid.  But the people around him should have maybe been a bit less stubborn.

To be fair, Scherzer and Domingo German have been suspended for sticky stuff. Bundy is far from the only one.

Perhaps. I know what the rumors were about him. He was a "work out warrior" with huge thighs for a 18-year old who threw 100 MPH in high school. Got drafted and paid and then each year his velocity kept dropping and then the injuries started. 

You can draw your own conclusions.

I get the insinuation but I don’t buy it.  He could have made a fortune by continuing to do whatever got him the bonus in the first place.  I believe he got injured his very first full season.  His velocity was down and he was overthrowing in the futures game and his velocity was way down that September out of the bullpen.   I don’t think he went from 98 in May to 92-94 in September because he stopped taking something.

That's why I said draw your own conclusion. You have concluded that injuries are the reason. That's potentially valid as well. I have my thoughts. I know others who have similar thoughts including former player development people that I used to talk to who were closer than either of us to the situation.

I don't have any proof just circumstantial evidence that would never hold up in court, so once again, feel free to have your own thoughts.

I definitely remember there were debates on this board about whether he had gotten out of shape after he came back from surgery.  I was on the Bundy is out of shape side.  But what I most remember is Keith Law writing that sources told him the calcification in his shoulder was unprecedented and he would never be the same.

I definitely think his demise at the major league level was injury and more specifically shoulder related. Elias did a great job of getting value (Bradish) out of that deal. As it stands, it's the only trade that Elias has made that has worked out so far when it comes to trading away his established players for prospects.

Certainly not connecting to Bundy specifically, but in general PEDs can also lead to chronic injuries.

Agreed. Draw your own conclusions. I'm inclined to draw similar ones as you. Freak athlete or not, an 18 year old is not supposed to look like hes 28.

Yeah, honestly, you can add that on since it's paying dividends already. I was think back more towards his initial trades Givens, Castro, Bleier and Bundy. I totally didn't even think about last year's Lopez trade which I liked at the time and still obviously like.

Lopez for Cano (at the time a late-bloomer relief prospect, and listed on the Orioles prospect list) and Povich, our current best pitching prospect.
