Has the O's taking local HS 1B/RHP Bryce Eldridge:

"Eldridge is an exit velocity darling but also a great athlete with a plus arm, and the Orioles have gone after those exit velo guys with high picks in recent years. With Jackson Holliday doing what he’s doing in High A, I would have to think the Orioles would be very willing to go back to the high school ranks"

I know Keith Law has to write for the general audience, but he can't really believe recency bias with how Holliday is performing would affect BAL's process-oriented decision making, can he?

He was just saying something to say something.

Law is a dip 💩. To even say that the Os would take Hollidays performance as a barometer for future high school picks is borderline moronic. I believe ME has shown he will take a high school kid if he thinks that is the best player available.

If it were like Mel Kiper with his connections to and knowledge about the inner workings of the Ravens, I would be intrigued by a statement about the shift in philosophy. Because the selections the O's have made in recent years seems to evince that they were all but closed off to the idea of taking high school hitters. They didn't have much of a choice at 1:1 last year other than to go with a prep bat given the way the board was stacked.

But it's Keith Law, so it's just words.

New Law mock draft:

17. Baltimore Orioles – Arjun Nimmala, SS, Strawberry Crest High (Dover, Fla.)

This seems like the floor for the 17-year-old Nimmala, who is one of the draft’s youngest players and has shown strong exit velocities, two things the Orioles definitely value in the draft. I’ve heard them on Bryce Eldridge, another big EV guy, and I think they’d be a player for Brock Wilken if those high school bats were gone. As usual, no word around them taking a pitcher in the first.

My guess is there is no word of any sort coming out of Oriole camp.

At best he's talked to a scout that has admitted to scouting a particular player and recommending them.

I don't know if Elias loosened up any on Holliday, but I remember an anecdote on Adley v. Witt that people in the room with Elias the hour before the draft still didn't know his intention.     I believe even in that hour he was probably grinding the player reps for any sliver of extra resources for others, which is his job.

He's demonstrated enough aptitude these now almost 5 years for this kind of thing I know pundits want clicks, but I don't read much into any of it.

I will enjoy the fun of it if we draft whoever is the Gregg Olson type guy.

    • He’s 24, under team control until 2030, and proven big league performer. They might trade him - it would cost us a fortune.
    • I see a playoff team with maybe the same expectations the 2023 team had going into the season. Possibly being picked to finish between 2nd and 4th in our division.     SP - Eflin, Grayson, Big Al, Kremer, Povich McDermott in AAA. Bradish and Means back in the 2nd half????  Wells too? RP - Bautista, Cano, Dominguez, Soto, Coloumbe, Webb, Perez, Akin 1B - Mountcastle DH - O’Hearn 2B - Holliday 3B - Westburg SS - Gunnar C - Adley LF - Cowser CF - Mullins RF - Kjerstad Bench - Mateo, Urias, backup C, RH OF or Mayo Basallo up mid season This is us baby.  We are who we are.  The only way to get experience is to actually get experience. Sorry to Brad Fuller maybe our “vet” can be a former player as hitting coach.  Carlos Beltran or Bonds.
    • I would love to sign any hitters who have actually experienced postseason success and wins.....maybe even championships.  Gurriel for KC has been a part of a lot of postseason wins and having veterans on the team like that are valuable.  I saw somewhere the KC guys said they really benefitted from having Gurriel, Pham, Sal Perez, and others who have been there and done that.  Continuing to rely on young players with nothing but zeroes on their postseason resumes isn't helpful.   I heard Francona is going to manage the Reds.  Great move for them.  I would have loved to have him, given he is a Hall of Famer with actual WS championships and a ton of October success.
    • Geordie Greep just dropped The New Sound. So that.
    • Crazy to lose to the same city in all three sports with two to be considered monumental upsets. I believe the Knicks were actually favored against the Bullets, but not sure as it was before I was born.
    • That entire series very much hurt. Benitez was awful. He hung a slider to Grissom (the eventual ALCS MVP) allowing a go-ahead homer in the top of the 8th of game 2. The squeeze play you mentioned that I haven't been convinced wasn't foul in game 3. Game 4 had two of their guys score on the same wild pitch where it looked like David Justice blocked Lenny Webster after scoring the first of those two runs. And then of course, the last hanging slider from Armando to Tony Fernandez that proved to be the game winner in game 6. Just painful all around.
