Unless someone is hurt, that would be very surprising. 
 

He has thrown 3 innings the last  10 days. I tend to doubt they have his first start be in the majors. It may be just one start and up here but I wouldn’t be surprised if they wait a few more starts to get him back into rhythm.

Oh joy. If I never saw him or Cole Irvin again, I’d be happy. That Irvin trade is horrendous. Hernaiz is 2.5+ years younger than the league and tearing it up, a very clear sign he has superstar potential. Not sure Cole Irvin is the kinda return you should be getting for a player of his caliber.

Look at it as a good branding opportunity for the development team, building future trade equity with the As, and a great opportunity for a kid who was blocked here.

Where would you place him in relation to Henderson, Ortiz or Westburg? How about Mayo, Holliday or even Prieto? I mean, I understand not liking Irvin, but Hernaiz had nowhere to go in Baltimore.

The trade was fine. Hernaiz had zero future here. Solid upside guy but Irvin has been a quality ML back end starter. It was fair value.

Interesting. Might be correct or optimistic, but excellent point. I always thought that happened with the Mancini trade, return seemed a tad high.

I’d argue why didn’t he buy while selling last trade deadline. We had a team that had a shot and just needed a bit more offense. Could have gotten a bat and maybe a BP arm (while trading Lopez too) for him. His hand was only forced due to bad preparation/planning/over performance of players (good problem). It’s hard to evaluate anyone under the Angelos regime but he’s a master Scouting Director but a mixed bag with trades/free agents.

I'm guessing he was supposed to be shedding payroll... even if it wasn't a lot in the scheme of MLB. That's also why I believe they will not be making any significant additions before the end of the month.

Wow. Why don’t you think that? I think if he stands pat, people will be downright pissed, particularly with D. Tate news.

      Maybe Hall would be better off if we had done that.  He sure seemed to make a lot more progress as a reliever than he did the last 2-3 years in the minors.   I’m all for seeing what McDermott can do in the bullpen.   Still doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be interested in adding Brecht as well.   That’s not saying he’d even be ready to contribute this year but maybe. I think Sale, Crochet, and others prove that you can fast track as a reliever and still go back to starting.   Anyway, I think I’ll just leave it at agree to disagree.  I’m looking for elite talent at #22 even if the guy profiles as a reliever.   I’ll take that over a Billy Amick type.

      Everything about Adley's throwing has taken a hit this year.  His pop time used to be top tier and he's degraded to around league average.  That's on top of his propensity to throw the ball to Narnia.   Some of the throwing issues I'd excuse because no one is throwing runners out at a good clip anymore (the base size and pickoff rules really made meaningful changes there) but he's not really a plus guy with the run game anymore.  He's still elite at blocking the plate and framing so that's good.   Wieters had a pretty steep drop-off through his mid-20s defensively as well.  It's hard to be Ivan Rodriguez and be an elite thrower from the backstop for like 15 years straight.

      Watching this kid at OK State kinda hurts. Starting shortstop for a top 10 program as a Freshman. He’s gives off some toolsy vibes.

      Self edit - I was filtered on contract value not aav. There’s 5 or 6 relievers in the top 50 aav per year. But that’s still nothing, since it shows even back end #2 starters make more than all but the elite closers.  as far as Brecht, I’d have him going up the minors as a starter just like baumeister  I want our minor leagues and FO looking to maximize long term value of our pipeline. If we need a closer or setup man for this year, I’d rather deal norby or someone to acquire it. hell, we kind of already have Brecht at home  his name is chayce McDermott. I’d rather bring him up down the stretch this year than start a first round picks clock and waste a chance to develop him as a starter. If we valued immediate bullpen help over developing starters, hall would’ve been a full time reliever 2 years ago rather than toiling away in Norfolk trying to get him command sorted.

      Of course Holliday as well. Anyways Mayo, Basallo no. As for Kjerstad?, depends on how Stowers does with his chance and what their going to with Mountcastle and to a lesser extent O'Hearn.
