    • Rich Hill (64 years old: ultimate veteran presence!!)
    • Jordan Lyles (just needs to work with Holt again and he'll be awesome!)
    • Carlos Carrasco (Buck's TTTP stuff probably messed him up)
    • Lance Lynn (INSANE K-RATE OMG)
    • Michael Lorenzen (actually, strikeouts are overrated!!)
    • Marcus Stroman (he obv just tanked his entire July so we could get him for way less!)

I agree that the bullpen is the primary need.  Michael Lorenzen is getting a lot of discussion at this point and it's probably a good time to remind everyone that he was almost exclusively a relief pitcher from 2016 through the end of 2021.  He has been having some success this year as a starter though (underwhelming is probably a good term for him as a starter but he's also not terrible).

It may be that the O's are looking at Lorenzen as a reliever.  If that's the case then he has extra value insofar that he is already prepared to start if needed.  My concern is that several of our young starters begin to fade as the innings pile up and I also don't think Means contributes at all this year.

Still need a high leverage late-innings guy too.

Agreed, though if I had one quibble it would be that I have some concerns about Wells and Grayson from an innings perspective. Wells has looked gassed, so tomorrow's start will be something to keep an eye on after back-to-back bad starts. If he has to be rested or something, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with Irvin taking his spot. It might be good to have someone like Lorenzen, even if he's super boring. Big caveat: as long as we don't give up a top 100 guy for him.

If the O's were to acquire a dependable starter or two, I'd be on board with Wells or GRod as bullpen pieces. It would strengthen the rotation and the bullpen.

Wouldn't Rich Hill be a good middle reliever?  Have him focus on his 4-seamer with the changeup and sinker (curveball not very effective anymore), eliciting a lot of ground balls to take advantage of our IF defense (which I assume will be improving as the young guys get more seasoned and is already pretty damn good with the exception of Mateo recently).

I mean, if we could get the guy who started for Pittsburgh Apr-Jun it would be great to get 5-6 IP each game but in July his age seems to be catching up to him.

Either way, I'm thinking this is how Elias moves.

Wasn't what I meant.

What do you have to give Verlander to get him to waive his no trade clause?

A dogpile chance?    I do wonder for Verlander and Scherzer with few falls remaining, and not a high value on marginal millions 300-400 or whatever it is, if there might be some latitude there.

I think you’re on the right track.  No deals that involve a lot of money or top prospects.  I’ll believe it when I see it.

I think they will get a good reliever for mid20s (our system) guy or two. And possibly a bat ….man we need to score more than 3 runs regularly
