OK, Explain this maneuver

Since the end of he major  and minor league seasons the O's have recalled Johnson,  Ortiz, Stowers, Vespi and Baker to the active roster.   But they did not recalled McKenna, Baumann, Krehbiel, Cowser or Zimmermann.  What is that all about?

McKenna is not eligible yet. Tomorrow I think or Saturday.

Is it because at season’s end, you basically add everyone to your active roster who is on the 40-man roster? Might be the case.

Correct. That was his point. There are guys on the 40 who were not added.

SOME of them can't be, since they have not been down 10 or 15 days yet.

But Cowser certainly could be.

I know this is sarcasm, but I do think he had a bit of the deer in the headlights thing going on. I think he'll be more confident if he gets a full Spring with the team and has a real chance at breaking camp.

I have no idea why this but I expect that it is only one of several transactions that they make over the next two days.

Did they do this so those guys could play in the simulated game?

How can they recall these players when there is only a 28 man roster? Are they just in limbo, not in the majors and not in the minors? How does that work?

I think these are just end of season procedural moves and have nothing to do with the playoff roster.  Having said that, I have no idea what the purpose of those moves might be.

The post season roster is 26 I believe but the Taxi squad can be bigger.

The one that really catches the eye is Bautista activated from the DL! But I checked some other teams and it looks like all the injured players are being activated. Must be something that just happens automatically at the end of the year.

The five in one day reminds me of the limit of passing players through waivers a few years ago.  If this is a limit, I don't know why another 5 weren't processed the next day.  The Zimmermann and McKenna issues are probably due to the 10-day rule unless someone else goes on the IL.  More importantly, we'll be down to a 26 roster for the next series.  Let's go O's.
