Free Agent Target: Yoshinobu Yammamoto

All 30 teams will be bidding, so at best the odds of landing him are 1/30 (and probably less than that....)

Still, am I wrong to think this is a match made in heaven?  He'd get to pitch for a playoff team coming off a 100 win season.  We could desperately use a quality starter- and he happens to be young and in his prime and has Cy Young caliber stuff....

I'm not sure I understand why every offseason people keep starting threads like this expecting the O's to dive headfirst into free agency, competing with teams that have $200M payrolls.   That's just not happening......possibly ever with the Angelos family as owners.   Let's get the payroll at least over 100M before we think that we might even go after the tier 2 guys.

So I shouldn't make a Jung Hoo-Lee thread?

DIET COKE!

Somehow I think if Les Grossman were running this team, we’d have a payroll larger than the Mets and Padres put together.

It's very difficult to figure out how much they bring in, MLB office and players get the bulk of the gate but the O's get a residual % for the rest of the playoffs gates even though they are out.  I assume the teams keep all the ancillaries (parking, concessions).  BTW ticket prices are set by MLB.

in games one through three of the Division Series, the players get 60% of the gate. In addition, 1.6% of the gate goes to the umpires. And then the two teams in the series split the rest 50-50. For the rest of the division series, the players get nothing.

The league collects almost all ticket revenue from playoff games and simply provides a stipend for home and away teams that cover costs for travel and stadium operations.

I do share your sentiment that Angelos should spend but there is also a very good chance he is doing everything he can to make the Orioles attractive for an impending sale upon PA's death which would mean no long, large FA contracts.  It should not keep them from 1-2 year  Evoldi like deals.  This is all just my speculation.
